One more thing - you can try Settings/High quality upsampling and disable it. The high quality algorithm is simply high-quality
, therefore quite CPU consuming.

No no, it's not that simple - the effect itself uses say 2x as much CPU for processing, but there are also 2 filters - upsampling and downsampling. In the HQ mode, these are made to provide pretty high quality, which means high amount of removed aliasing and low amount of removed frequencies you want.
Though it's weird, that it overloaded the entire CPU. Maybe it's related to the new 8-channel stuff. I checked and on Mac it takes lots of CPU (which is weird, because on Windows it takes say 10%, but that's usual and still seems too much). Well, I'll let you know.

I meant it may be a bug - processing 8 channels instead of 2, will see.
