Despite having restored my E-mu Emulator II last year having imported it from the US I've not really had a chance to use this beast much. On realising that so many seem to be intent on digitally transferring the EII's libraries directly I decided to make some samples directly from the beast's mix output in order to save some of the magic that is the EII's unusual sample/companding/analog filter/audio path.

Thanks to it's SSM analog filters and great modulation capabilities the EII makes quite a nice synth and a great vintage sampler. Yes it's loaded with shortcomings but as is often the case these somehow make it all the more special.

The following is the infamous EII Bosendorfer Piano used in countless pop and dance tracks of the 80's and early 90's. It's not a modern super realistic rendition - but definitely works well with some musical styles.

I put together a multisample in Kontakt for those who want to have a play:

Thanks for sharing! I never used an Emulator II, but I had an original Emax for years. You're absolutely right- those samples lose a lot of their charm by digitally converting them to modern formats... it captures the low quality sampling, but not the low quality playback and distinct filter sound of these old instruments. Sampling the original is the only way to go. :)

Thanks again HideawayStudio. :tu:

EDIT: Sounds like another keeper to me. I really like the 'SCI Prophet 2K2_ Preset 3 Guitar' one, too. One, two. One, two. Testing. Testing. :)

Oh my. This will be bringing me much joy. Just after pressing down a few chords I feel at home. Thanks a lot for your efforts!

Many thanks Aloysius.... and to those who missed a similar experiment with the SCI Prophet 2002 sampler see the thread in this forum:

Let me know if you are all interested in more samples direct from the beast rather than digital transfers and I might capture some more classic EII sounds :)

Then maybe you need to grab my DIY Tube Harpishord too :) ....see new thread

I'm hoping to release a LOT more material over the next few months - I am currently pulling together a load of old tube gear for a new sample pack I'm planning to release later this year.

I have just sampled the infamous EII Marcato Strings directly from the mix output too - see new thread:
