Did you play/sequence all of the parts?

It sounds like old-school jazz, but with some effects on the trumpet (for example) that are a modern/glitch sort of thing.

My Funny Valentine was the first thing I ever tried to remix. It certainly didn't come out as well as this.

all the audio is from a miles recording of the tune. i used reaktor and a few other beasties to 'interpret' it. :-)

thank you for hearing that, laguna. and you're EXACTLY right. after i generate the raw material (using reaktor), i go through it obsessively at the microaudio level (sometimes down to single samples) editing, editing, editing, editing, editing ... until it is just what it wants/needs to be.

even though i'm very familiar with the nearly perfect miles version (with the piano intro by red garland) i found that this was a great "comment" on the recording, sort of a variation of the original theme that brought out the slow beauty of the piano intro and skated into the lush trumpet part in a way that sounded sort of inevitable, like if you were going to do a remix of the tune this is pretty much the only way you'd want to do it. very nice work.
