my Akai MPD16 drum pad is useless with windows 7, no drivers for it from Akai!

wtf, this won't work with my new PC(windows 7), last drivers were made for 2000/XP...

:x

I'll buy no more Akai hardware....

Post

Try installing XP/2000 drivers in XP compatibility mode(last post):
http://forums.techarena.in/operating-sy ... 357369.htm

Or buy an external MIDI interface for it
Or may be you can use another controller as MIDI IN (like an USB keyboard with MIDI IN).

PS : I got a KORG PadKontrol and drivers are up to W7 ;)
And my old M-Audio keyb and audio card are too...

Och nö!

I'm just watching some MPD16's at ebay. :(
That's a pity...

seems the replacement is the mpd18 and that has no downloadable drivers(like plug and play I suppose)...

why does my edirol keyboard not need drivers but these mpd's do? or is that why they discontinued the mpd16?

i'd think twice about giving akai more cash, imagine buying the expensive stuff and they don't bother to update drivers,

I'd like akai to explain themselves on this.... :x

Some midi interfaces require their own driver but others are 'class compliant'; that is they use a generic driver supplied by the OS. Many older midi devices aren't class compliant and some newer devices have features that aren't supported by the generic driver so they require their own driver.

It'd be a shame if Akai stopped supporting their legacy products. I mean, even M-Audio has Win 7 drivers for products as old as as the original Oxygen 8! I figure that it's probably an issue of priority though. Most companies like to get their latest products up to date before supporting legacy products (which can be a total pain). Also keep in mind that Akai (at least the music division) is owned by Numark who also owns Alesis and Ion, and last time I heard, they use the same engineers and software people to support products across all brands.

That is true, if you have a midi input port on you sound card, you could simply power the device with USB and send the midi out of the MPD to the midi in on your sound card.

Something like this I imagine.
http://www.amazon.com/USB-MIDISport-Uno ... B0043MJCIW

I have a few of these lying around... I'd be willing to let one go for $10 if you are interested.

I'm sure they would, I can't seem to find the brand for the really cheap ones. It would probably be a good idea to make sure whichever midi interface you purchase is either class compliant or has drivers for your OS, to prevent this issue from coming up again. :)
