Another old song of mine from years ago I am putting in the Music Cafe finally. I have a number of them I plan to upload to dropbox and post here.
No, I didn't do the vocals
A chord progression originally written by myself on guitar. My guitar wizard friend Andy heard it and wanted to expand on it and wanted vocals and lyrics for it. While he was in music school he recruited a vocalist friend Chris that was in some of his classes. He gave Chris a CD of some of my song ideas, and Chris instantly came up with a vocal line/lyrics and melody, and came back to Andy's house the next day and recorded this. Andy came up with a middle/bridge/solo section on guitar and also recorded the bass line. I recorded the rhythm guitar on a Les Paul custom into a Hughes & Kettner Tubeman MKII preamp pedal with the inbuilt cab sim on with a Boss Chorus pedal.
Chris Ans is a very talented trained soulful vocalist. He could easily make the American Idol top 10. It was a joy to work with him and make this song come to life like it did. He was involved in a broad range of jazz vocal classes, choir, and even some Josh Groban type opera performances.
Sadly my we must have scared him off because he did not take kindly to studio direction and there might have been too much coaxing to try and get him to sing certain parts the way we envisioned or the right way under studio conditions to get a part right in other songs we were working on. He had never did any studio work prior to this, so our constructive criticism must have made him feel uncomfortable and deterring. So after a few avoided calls, we never heard from him again.
