Awesome work Neil! Rich and abstract, with that organic vibe you're so good at. The ethnic textures are a really nice touch in here too. Cheers!

thanks Matt
i started with atmospheres and textures this time instead of my usual route of beats first. i'm glad it paid off.

If Boards of Canada got bitten by a radioactive John Carpenter...
Er, that is to say, I liked it. Still like it, in fact. Thanks, macmurphy.

Meant to ask what you're using in this track Neil, if you don't mind?

i layered up some brass in kontakt for the droney sound, with extra tuba for bass and put it through guitar rig. bounced that to audio and did some transposing to force some kind of progression out of it. this got sent to some heavy pitch shifting and delay that you can hear in the background.
kontakt got a lot of use in this in fact. i used single hits from Deviant States for the breath like percussion and the clattering ethnic sounds, Sonic Couture's Abstrakt Bass and Novachord, Hollow Sun's Oscillosine for the melody in the middle, Abbey Road 60's drums and kontakt's vintage keyboards.
there's a little bit of Absynth at the end for the piano like melody and
a Mopho doing the sequence near the beginning.
i hope that made sense

Nice work... that approach can be troublesome if the underlying material resists having a beat added later but it really worked here.macmurphy wrote:...i started with atmospheres and textures this time instead of my usual route of beats first. i'm glad it paid off.

Yeah, indeed. It really does work here though. Very much digging the groovy bits.oddson wrote:Nice work... that approach can be troublesome if the underlying material resists having a beat added later but it really worked here.macmurphy wrote:...i started with atmospheres and textures this time instead of my usual route of beats first. i'm glad it paid off.
