expository material apparently..
(which isn't to say there isn't a beginning, middle and end, and beginnings middles and ends within them.) a number of ideas to develop here... dark science fiction-y soundscape over which rides a soprano sax leading; free treatment of themes... The piece started really bassey...like that a lot in a piece like this... I can sense a few themes cutting through there as well...the sax sounds very playful...almost joyful to me Near the conclusion I noticed an almost soundless..if I can use that turn of phrase..beat like pattern...almost...heartlike.... ---- Barry The man who survived mustard gas and pepper spray is now a seasoned veteran http://www.ambientonline.org/ |

take the sax (and the belches*) out and take a little ride over to helios creed's place, and you'd have something people expect to hear *i'm guessing they were synthesized! |

yeah... what happens in this kind of modus operandi, that I really enjoy, is that beating phenomena happen from the sound design and I find rhythmic possibilities in the margins (a lot of it is acoustical phenomena, exciting some cymbals or something, here 'crotales' with a bow, or waterphones. A lot of these things you hear in scifi etc filmscores are in VSL Percussion and/or Elements.)
two of the patches here are mine, the really noisy one that's exposed at the very end, and the crying kind of one that's more blobulent at the bottom. there is a patch in Reaktor Spark I edited some that does a whole lot with just two controllers, and Steampipe in Reaktor as is. this is kind of terrific, I want to delve more deeply into the themes but have to get them on there while they're happening, I don't write anything down, they happen in the sequencer (there's no plan, it's just improvising by ear following the sound design) So it's a little bit ADD. This 3:15 seems like no time at all. But, the themes are related, they're related to Calculate This as well. Last edited by jancivil on Sat Jun 11, 2011 9:24 am; edited 1 time in total |

I guess it's steampipe colliding with my 'cantor ibn blob' patch. with just two controllers these Reaktor jobs do many unexpected things. Spark I got to do a range of things from that bass howl at the beginning to a kind of piccolo fluttertongue thru a distortion box.*i'm guessing they were synthesized! |

Very cool. I'll have to listen again at a decent hour for speakers, but I've enjoyed it three times on headphones now. Thanks. |

Very strange sort of spacey thing - suits the title - almost a cross between the Clangers and the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy I like it but suspect it should carry a government health warning |

folderol wrote: I like it but suspect it should carry a government health warning That government doesn't warn, it hypnotizes and drugs so you don't notice... that the sax can be perceived as 'almost joyous' is a moral victory in the thing. thanks for listening and commenting in the positive. & thanks Dennis. |

the little jig, piccolo and bizarropiccolo, is kind of Waiting for Godot-esque to me. |
