Both synths can do trancy sounds, of course, even Synth1 can (well, almost). I like the old sound of tunes from the 1996-2000, like Airscape - l'esperanza, signum - comming on strong, shinobi - this is the real thing, montera - party on mars, yello - on track.
However, what synth is easier to program to achieve those sounds?

Signum - Comming on strong. I love the first stabs sounds, they like two oscillators detuned few semitones and a filter adsr with some attack. minute 0:04. And of course I love the main detuned synth, when it's fully opened at 0:47.
Shinobi - this is the real thing. I want those classic sounds like that psycho-sound that start at 1:17 and break on 1:40. In general I love all the sounds of this song.
Yello - on track. Classic of classics. I love the 303-like sound at 4:16, and 4:41 high pitched sound, it seems a saw wave with portamento.
