hey

i saw a video on youtube with someone having an iphone 4 connected to a midi keyboard via the usb cammera conection kit.
he could play the synth oh the iphone.
Imagine you conect the small nanokey keyboard to the iphone while on the go.

Has anyone tested to connect the connection kit to an iphone instead of an ipad?
please post your results.. E.g. Which device you tested and which IOS version you have.

You should not only watch videos but also read text

"UPDATE: this feature has been disabled in iOS 5.0 beta since beta 7, including the final released version."

CCK-compatibility for anything else than iPad has been deliberately disabled by Apple. That iOS 5 BETA-Version is the only known instance it was enabled.

I am on ios 4.2.1 with my iphone 3g and maybe things are different?Thats why i am asking!I heard that usb generic midi supoort first appeared on ios 4.2?

I see, yes CoreMIDI and CoreAudio where introduced with 4.2, but you need a dedicated MIDI interface for that. Right now the iRig MIDI is the best MIDI-DIN bang for the buck.

thank you for the advise, but usb midi solution would be cool for nanokey... Maybe i have to get in iphone 4 and install the ios5 beta to get the cck working. Arent there any hacks to get cck activated again in the regular ios 5 release?

As far as I understand, the camera connection kit should include an Apple authentication coprocessor which should request an iDevice to allow access.

And the Camera Connection Kit should allow an iDevice to switch into the USB host mode.

A USB DAC, like the Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo, which is directly compliant with an iPod/iPhone/iPad, acts as a USB host, while the iPod/iPhone/iPad acts as a USB device.

Any news about this? As far as I could find out the CCK still only works on the iPad...

camera connection kit on iphone!? (with midi keyboard)
