Hi,

Looks like my Mackie Onyx 400f is dying, it takes about 20 mins (and each time longer) before it starts working. I just very low distorted sound till it suddenly "wakes up"... :-(

So, as it is long out of warranty, looks like I'm in the market for a new interface,

It needs to:

1. work with Tracktion 3
2. be USB2.0 (the Onyx was Firewire, but I want to use it on a non firewire laptop)
3. preferably 2 headphone jacks...
4. no more than £300/$400

I like the look of http://www.amazon.co.uk/FOCUSRITE-SCARL ... 004W6KREC/

Any ideas, advice, recommendations??

thanks

Motty

I've been using an NI Audio Kontrol 1 for a few years. It's built like a tank, and has been completely reliable, with low latency and excellent sound. It's been replaced recently by the Komplete Audio 6, but you still see the odd bargain AK1 around the net. The Komplete 6 looks great too. I tried one last year and it seems as robust as the AK1 with great sound quality, and more I/O options.

I've heard many scare stories about the Scarlett ... dodgy drivers, etc YMMV

You'll have far less problems with T3 on XP than you will on 7/Vista

metamorphosis, out of interest which sound interface do you use?

Black Lion Audio modded MOTU 896HD (firewire 400).

Tear it apart and see if you can fix it !!!! May be a cable loose. My 1640i had a intermitant left channel drop out issue. I cracked it open and a ribbon connection was loose. Its fine now.

I just switched from XP to 7 and am having fewer problems.

(I use a M-Audio Audiophile 192.)
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Well you'd be the exception, as most people switching to 7 have had to do things like run t3 in a winxp sp2 compatibility mode, use an administrative account, etc.
Out of interest, what T3-specific problems were you having with XP that were fixed with 7? Not really interested in problems with XP itself.

No poofs since the upgrade.
