I've had my eye on this for a while now, but it seems there aren't many frequent updates..

Anyone know if the developer is working on this? Is it fairly stable at its current release

*EDIT* See it has 64 bit support with latest update on OSX :)

I see its at 1.52 beta, I have demoed this before when it was @ 1.41 and it was a bit buggy. So im just wondering what has been improved and if it's still being actively worked on.

I wrote an email to Jim on Apr 22, 2009 about updates he was 'thinking about' implementing. There's a thread somewhere at KvR about it. Never heard anything more about that since.

Hard to stay afloat in this industry I guess, that's why he's kinda re-focused on iOS apps.

TimewARP2600 has so much freaking potential it's unbelievable. Such a great synth, so well emulated. There haven't been many analog sounds I couldn't do on it. Even when put through a chorus/reverb, it still comes through powerful, like it owns the place.
One synth that has never let me down, that has always exceeded my expectations and left me going: Jesus Christ this thing is alive.

it needs a 0dff filter to be even close in emulating an arp2600 (especially if referencing to the earlier models with the moog filter clone).
if it gets such upgrade i'd buy it in a shot

It's obvious it needs A LOT of updates if it is to reach some relatively complete and functional state but the developer hasn't posted here for almost a year. If it's a one-man show, I wouldn't expect anything other than - probably - a couple of minor updates, if at all. That's too sad  but... what can you do?

What is a 0dff filter? I am not familiar with that term.

Jim

The price definitely needs an update. Seeing that a lot of retailers (like Arturia for instance) have cut their prices, $249 is way out over the top, and if you haven't already got an iLok you need to add $50 to get one of those to.

Wayoutware was bold enough to offer A/B filter comparisons at full resonance on the website. Did you find the Timewarp filter fell short of the hardware 2600?

TimewARP 2600 is a little different than most analog emulations. First off, it was written quite a while before the invention of the term 0dff... TimewARP 2600 is different because every controllable parameter on every module including the filter are updated each sample with feedback from every other connected module in the synth all of the time.

TimewARP 2600 also does perform oversampling on it's filter to reduce the feedback delay as well. It is not a perfect emulation, but it does hold up on many tests that most other emulations fail at.

As for updates to TimewARP 2600 was updated last year to support Mac OS X 64-bit with a Cocoa based UI. I have recently had to take external work in order to survive, but I still am putting in time to maintain and update Way Out Ware's products. I am currently working on the 64-bit version of KikAXXE and I hope to have that out soon... I would really like to get back to creating a new version of TimewARP 2600, however, no deep pockets exist here, so that will happen in it's time.

Best,

Jim
