What are some sequencers you use but which aren't really popular? Maybe they're unique because they don't have a common editing flow, or because they're open source but you need to compile them yourself to use them?

It can be interesting to try out new / lesser known software.

Numerology!!! The ultimate step sequencer...nothing you can't do with it. Mac only but that may change someday. I use it on nearly all of my tracks. Best of all, comes in both standalone and plugin format!

I used to use seq24, good for triggering song parts and record it as a performance. The concept of it should be brought to the touch interface age, someone really should do a complete takeover on the project. MIDI only and the Windows port doesn't function on my computer ..

In particular, it probably offers the best MIDI editing of any DAW.

Let me put it this way:

If money wasnt an issue, i would hire the dev of Rax'N'Trax his dream-team of co-developers, then fly them all to an island and let them work until they equipped the app with the greatest UI that can possibly be made, implemented the best organisational/workflow system in the universe, and made the whole thing as stable as a nuclear fallout shelter.

Why? Because the concept Rax'N'Trax is based upon is pure ingenuity and somewhat of a dream-come-true for all who believe that the sequencer is the coolest invention of all times. In fact this thing is so full of potential already its scary...just watch the tutorial vids and youll know what i mean. (Yes, they are a bit slow-paced and dry at times, but due to the fact that Rax'N'Trax can do WAY more than one would expect at first glance youre guaranteed to have A-HA moments all the time.)

Renoise is IMO the most powerful DAW in the world in terms of "programming" music rather than "playing and recording" music. It's so cool and so addictive that I constantly have to ask myself why not more people (who like to program music) have discovered and come to enjoy this fantastic piece of software.

I guess it has to do with the programming paradigm itself, i.e. that Renoise uses a tracker interface while most people are alienated from that kind of workflow.

I've heard really good things about it. Having said that, what if any "on the other hand" things would you note -- i.e. stuff you don't like / areas for improvement?

Just out of interest - is it 64bit and does it act as a Rewire master or slave or both?

I think its definitely the workflow is so different

Ive tried the renoise demo a couple times and each time just cant wrap my head around it. I keep thinking that I should love it, do programming and engineering for a living, so it would seem like it would be right up my alley as far as an interface and layout. I just cant come to grips with it though

64bit: Not to my knowledge.

ReWire: Yes, but its 'Members Only'.

(Whatever that means - never tried to use the ReWire part myself.)
