eXtream Software Development has released their app USB Audio Recorder PRO to the Play Store. It allows recording and playback using many standards compliant USB audio devices, a first for Android. By writing custom USB audio code, pro audio is now finally possible on millions of Android devices.

For a complete list of capabilities and tested devices, please see here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd. usbaudiorecorderpro

Required is an Android 3.1 or higher device (no rooting required!) supporting USB host mode. If your device has a micro-USB connector, you will need an OTG cable to enable USB host mode and convert to full-sized USB. You can see such a cable in the 2nd image connected to the XPeria S phone (the black cable).

Enjoy!

Hello, sounds like really great software. I hope you will consider adapting your drivers to allow for the following application. There are thousands of others out there like me, waiting for this solution.

***Android phone to USB-OTG cable to DAC to car stereo to speakers.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 handles this quite well, as do a few other phones.
But one problem is with call audio. If we take a call while in our car, the call audio is not transmitted via the USB-OTG cable, nor are we able to connect a USB Microphone to record our voices to be transmitted to the call.

There are three-way USB-OTG cables out there that allow our phones to charge while simultaneously using USB-OTG to transmit digital audio out. Using a powered USB hub, we could attach both a DAC and a USB Microphone. All we need are the drivers or kernel changes to allow this to happen.

I would pay one million dollars if you could make this work.
Or at least a significant portion of my next paycheck.

Hi dwrae,
Thanks for making this.
I think you should explain what kind of cable works with this (i.e. the female full size to male micro-usb). For example, can I purchase any off the street cable or do I need a special one?
Thanks. God bless.

You cannot access audio from phone calls or any other audio stream that is not of the app itself. You would need a rooted phone and adjustments to the kernel. That's not what this app or my USB audio code is meant for.

Thanks for the million dollar offer though.. Very Happy

It's described in the Play Store page I think, but you would basically need an OTG cable.

Hi Davy,

I just tested the trial version and it works great with my Note 2 and Zoom H4.
On the playstore you say it's not compatible with the Note 2.
I'm running the Wanamlite v2.1 ROM and Note2Core v2.1 kernel.

So, I'm not sure if it's the ROM or kernel that disables the audio blocking, but it's good for me Smile

Will this be integrated into Audio Evolution?
And if so, should I wait and purchase an upgrade when that happens?
Or, if I purchase this USB Audio recorder, will that allow me to use the functionality once it's integrated with AE?

Thanks,
Rich

It seems some Note 2's work, some don't. Yours isn't stock, so that may be why. Integration in Audio Evolution Mobile will be in 1st quarter 2013, but definately not in January. There may be ways to detect if USB Audio Recorder PRO is installed and purchased, so you wouldn't need to do the in-app purchase, but I'm not sure if that's possible and how much extra work that would be (and if it's any safe). But really, I never understood the fuss about a purchase equal to 2 beers.. Rolling Eyes

OK thanks.
I was just asking because if it was going to be added to AE in a few days I probably wouldn't end up using the USB recorder app, I'd just use AE for all recording situations.
I'll purchase this now then so I can use it until it's available in AE.

One question, what does the "Mixer" tab do?
Mine is blank and I can't seem to get it to show anything.

Thanks for an amazing job at getting USB audio working Smile

hi,

USBAudioRecorderPROTrial doesn't work on my ZTE BLade Crescent with cyanogen rom CM10. I have a "application stopped" message. I do not connect any USB Device for the time : my goal is to use a standard USB DAC (not purchased Wink ).

I can send you a log file if you want.

I compiled the app for armeabi-v7, some ZTE's only have armeabi, perhaps that's the cause?
