Thank you. was looking at this earlier but wanted to double check with people who may have used a good one. not sure how those sites work with their reviews.. should be good though.

I use these @ work, http://www.easeus.com/datarecovery/ and http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ we do a lot of data recovery. Now if its for Sd or usb ,this http://www.isobuster.com/ is very good.

Always keep a backup (or two) of all your stuff

And keep the backups in different places, so a fire or burglary won't leave you without backups.

A few years back i had a hard drive crap out on me, i tried a handful of freeware, and payware demos. The software that worked best (found & recovered most files) was Ontrack Data Recovery.

Granted its been a while and software evolves, but if i had the same problem today, that would be where i would start. They have a Home and Pro version, and it appears they still have demos.

Good luck recovering the data, with whichever software you try, just remember to NOT copy any information to the drive, as it will overwrite things youre trying to recover.

Very legitimate question which isn't answered yet by the OP. Makes a hell of a difference what you're trying to recover. Looking for a simple UnDelete tool, or what?

2nd the recommendation here. Constantly recommend recovermyfiles to people and have saved a ton of data. In my experience with attached USB drives, there is a great chance it is the enclosure gone bad rather than the drive. If you have formatted, then it's no prob to get data back too.

This program even found everything deleted at work on an initialized 700GB fiber channel SAN LUN that accidentally had an OS written over the initialized logical space! So easy to use.

Recently recovered 750GB on a 4 year old 1TB Buffalo USB drive. Formatted and recovered, Buffalo enclosure went bad. Had three enclosures crap out on me in last 8 years, while drives were all good.

i used winternals disk commander long time ago and it was very good.

EDIT: after a quick check it seems that it's been bought out by MS so no it is a part of DART package.
