Hi firstly heres the English manual if anyone is interested.

http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manu ... _e02_W.pdf
Im very interested in one of these to use primarily, synced as a slave to midi, as a loop player. I will do some live recording also.

As the manual is now availble I took a read to check the loop sync behaviour.
What I'm intersted to know is if pre prepared loops are imported at a certain BPM (lets say 120)does the RC-505 time "fit" the loop if the unit is being driven at a (slightly) faster or slower BPM?

This is the way the iPad app Loopy works with very transparent and smooth timestretch, which is very cool.

Page 13 of the manual under the description of the loop sync on behaviour, would seem to suggest that the loop lengths are not adjusted if playing tempo is different from imported, or recorded loop tempo. This would be dissapointing.

I can see no reference to any timestretching mode.

I'm posting to any new owners who might have set this behaviour up, or could test for me. or it could be I've just missed the bit in the manual about this.

Cheers

OK got it.
Further reading (very next page... Doh.. ) explains that exact behaviour.

FYI from the manual.

"Each track saves the tempo at which that track was recorded. This is called the "original tempo" of the track. The phrase memory also has a "phrase memory tempo" that is shared by all tracks 1-5.
Normally, you should leave Tempo Sync on, so all tracks will play at the same tempo (the phrase memory tempo). If you turn Tempo Sync off for tracks for which you don't want the tempo to change (such as those with special effects), you'll be able to obtain playback that is always at the original tempo"

So the unit will automatically adjust the tempo of any tracks (if that's what you want to do) that are part of a 5 track phrase "set", to the master phrase tempo. The master phrase tempo can be set internally or driven by external clock. Nice.
