Ok, so Ive scoured the internet, read tutorials, watched youtube videos, and I STILL can't seem to get a good guitar tone. I'm not a guitarist, well not a good one, so I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to tones to begin with, I'm not the mots picky with them. But I can't seem to get anything that sounds remotely good. I'll sit there for HOURS trying to get a good tone. Bellow are basically the best tones Ive been able to get using what I have.

The first link is a song I "finished" a while back (ok it obviously still needs some work, like the fadeout at the end isn't there AT ALL it just stops, but structurally its done). Just so you can kinda see what the best I can get is in action. I was REALLY happy with that clean tone, but now It feels to dull, all my tones seem to lack an edge to them.

The next 3 clips are the same riff. The first time is guitar rig to an impulse, the second one is a difrent head (in clip name) going into the same impulse, and the third is only using guitar rig (outside of compression and eq)

Shouldn't be too hard... it's a lot of trial and error.
There's no "exact" recipe for this, really.
One way or another, you can't deny death.
Simply said...
We're dead but we just don't know it yet.

Well, Ive been trying trial and error for months. Its only slightly better. I know its possible, but I really don't want to spend anymore money considering I already spent a good amount on stuff.

add a BBE Sonic Stomp, place it first in your fx chain. I realise you don't wanna spend cash but this thing is ridiculously cheap for what it can do for sound.
one of many reviews
ps. I didn't bother listening, it's way too early
pps Nick also has lessons regarding guitar recording and not stepping on other instruments' sonic space...

Your guitar track sounds like mono? Doubling is the first thing to do.

Post

Ive tried doubling it, for some reason shreddage has a REALLY bad problem with phasing when I double it, and yes, I switch it to the second guitar in shreddage.

@werp

that doesn't really help me, since I'm using shreddage 2, aka no physical guitar to run pedals through.

I should probably add that this is the sound I'm going for. I'm doing a study on this song so this is the style of tone I'm going for.
