Feature suggestion: Audio to Expressive MIDI ;)

The title IMO says everything.
Short explanation:
It should be like the Audio To MIDI function in AL but Extended in the Bitwig way.

So the pitch, Amplitude and maybe also other values of the source audio material (signal power, transient curves) would be converted into polyphonic note expressions.
Then we could use those to control Synthesizers polyphically.

All in all it could be like a crossover between AL's "audio to MIDI" and Melodyne's per note pitch curves. You know what I mean.

I think that would be really great! :hyper:

I like this feature suggestion. As an alternative, how about ARA integration so that we could use Melodyne?

You can already use Melodyne in Bitwig Studio. Just record you audio into it...

Thanks Tom! I had tried this two months ago, couldn't get it work, now it does!

Yeah, something like ARA (maybe even more integrated) would also be cool. And this could also have this functionality of generating Bitwig MPE note data (with polyphonic expressions) from Audio.

But I thought that even a simplyfied feature (just the Audio to expressive MIDI) would be great to have in the toolbox of awesomeness. ;)

Maybe there could be devices which analyze the pitch, "timbre" and "pressure" of incoming Audio in realtime and generate notes based on this data. But I thought that probably there would be a lot of latency and it might be hard to do for polyphonic Audio (like realtime chords to note conversion).

Well, there are tools like Jam Origins Midi Guitar and Midi Bass which are quite fast and Midi Guitar can deal with polyphony, so maybe send them a feature request for MPE?

Imitone isn't a VST yet but deals with voice to Midi in realtime (which isn't polyphonic for most humans though ;-) ).

Pitch and Pressure are relatively defined, but Timbre is harder to grasp, since it has no real hardwired meaning.

Not sure if this kind of thing is a priority ATM though, so I personally use above tools for the time being.

As for Melodyne: for me only the 64 Bit version of the Melodyne Essential plugin works, the 32 Bit version never did work here on Windows - although I did not try the new version 4 yet.
