I had the honour of remixing vurt's id. :-o

Here are the results. 7 minutes, 9.6M download.

Excellent original can be found here. I took the 'no drums' version. This is less readily identifiable as the original, and more an extrapolation on the sounds contained within.

All sound sources are vurt, except for a bit of One Ping Only (I kid you not. I thought it appropriate).

Lots of effects (Retrodelay, Supatrigga, Sloper, Sound Forge fx, Audiomulch fx, etc).

Hope you enjoy.

Steve.

Nice work! Flows beautifully.

I've only recently started checking the tracks in this forum, but this is the best I've heard thus far.

Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked.

Did you have a chance to listen to the original? Interesting to hear what people might have expected from an offshoot of vurt's tune. It was great source material, vurt uses a lot of evocative sounds, and leaves lots of headroom for mixing up.

Cheers,
Steve

I have to say that I'm liking this more than the original version...mostly because there are no drums....

Great work :!:

Thanks, I agree about the drums. I liked the drums, and have a thing for that kind of sporadic percussion, but I didn't think they fit the mood of the other sounds. I guess as an expression of vurt's id the case could be made for the drums, though.

I really loved the voice-like sounds in vurt's track.

Steve

It was a pleasure. Good fun slicing up someone else's sounds. Excellent source of new ideas.

I've not listened to the original (yet), but I have to confess to deeply enjoying this remix

It reminds me quite a lot of Stars of the Lid...

Only snag as far as I'm concerned is the length i.e. there's not enough of it :)

Nice stuff indeed

Ahh, Stars of the Lid. One of my favourites.

Cheers! I wasn't sure where to take it at the time, so I stopped where it is. It matches the original's length pretty closely.

Great, as mellow as they come. Gave me a feeling of celticness (not a real word surely?)

Listened to both, not a big fan of the original. A little too dark for my taste (although preferred the drum version) so obviously I like this remix.

Floats along dreamily, parts drift in and out seamlessly. Love the backgroung part around 4 min mark.

Blown away that you manage to make that from the MP3?

Great work Steve

Cheers

I'll look it over and see if there's an extended version in me, but I make no promises. Maybe I'll do a remix of another tune, this one was quite a fun experience. If any one is up for having stuff remixed let me know.

Thanks, 2windy.

I can see your point on the original, my take maybe was the calm after the storm. First thing I thought when I heard the original was that I could immediately work with some of those sounds.

That would be the mighty One Ping Only (through delay and a filter, maybe chopped up a bit).

I actually like working with the finished track rather than raw bits and pieces. I downloaded a package of clips that some band recently put up for a remix contest, and didn't find it inspiring to work with at all. Something about using a finished product as raw material works for me. I process all sounds quite a lot, so the lossy file compression from MP3 isn't an issue. I add/subtract enough frequencies to fill in the blanks.

Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
Steve
