ah i didn't click through, watched the video, he said kit, didn't mention "or i do prebuilt for a bit extra" which they usually do if it's available.
silly me for assuming! :hihi:

Got the last bits(*) today to construct a raspberry-pi based PAL-output 'video sampler'

https://github.com/cyberboy666/r_e_c_u_r

(*)already had a pi3, and camera, sdcard, usb stick etc, but the XPT2046 3.2" 320x240 touchscreen that i had plugged into it didnt really want to work with the recur image as it was, and ive already faffed around enough for my liking with two other pi projects this week, so I just so I bought an 3.5" 480x320 touchscreen replacement (£15), as that's the baseline for the build. Elegoo brand, it was cheapest.

the only other thing i had to buy for this was a stupid cheap USB (£8) keypad, and also make up a TRRS-to-composite video cable.

the USB stick I was using was 128Gb, but the software seemed a bit fussy with it so reformatted it into a 16Gb partition for now, and threw on some of those totally-f**ked-up british public information films from the 70s. everything seems to work pretty well now, but gotta say, Alvin Stardust is still creepy AF.

still need to :
test shaders and feedback
test the live camera input, then see if I can get a USB camera working instead of the pi camera
label the USB keypad
work out how to fly the thing properly
oh, and make up a case for it...

might think about making up a basic midi controller for it too.

watching a couple of the dev's videos helped considerably on working out how to access these!
label the USB keypad
done, but i need to modify the keymap for now, as one of the keys i need is normally 'num lock'
probably going to have to set this up on the network to do that.
work out how to fly the thing properly
those videos sure helped, more than a few things I wouldnt have sussed there.

looks like the dev did a couple of variants on something similar themselves, and have PCBs and open source schematics/designs, so that's handy... and as a result now Im thinking about building the 'simple' version, _recurBOY, as well...

Thought this might be interesting to some folk, an open source 'motion graphics' package, of the node-based flavour ie sorta Reaktor-for-moving-stuff. Meets my minimum spec for consideration, ie Spout support. Thought I knew of most of these packages, but this one slipped under my radar.

Windows-only, I think, at present.

Thanks for the fish option!

Still happy with Visual Studio DaVinci Resolve. May end up moving to After Effects, although I'm thinking mixing 2D animation (Moho Debut) with VS could open up possibilities without joining the Borg Collective.

Getting coffee to read through everything here, though. Some interesting stuff. :tu:

*edit*

After grovelling through a significant portion of all this (3 cups of coffee later), I'd say there seems to be enough interest to keep a dedicated video forum active. I'd be there, for sure! I've dabbled in animation and VFX since I was in game devc, played with 3D Studio (DOS and Max), Lightwave, Maya, and Houdini.. using these tools for visualization seems like mt next obsession (like I need one!). Given the state of streaming, adding an interesting video for a YouTube presence seems like a good path forward. I get more hits on my lame-ass YouTube videos than my Bandcamp site, le sigh.

i could do with a good camera.
id like something that i can use away from the studio, with a reasonably good picture quality (my webcam is potato)
slow motion and other fancy stuff is nice, but not essential (im not sure id look any different in slomo)

Hmm i wonder if the 11th gen Core I5 will be better than my old Core i7 Haswell for Davinci. Not had much luck running that with
Haswell.
