Does something like that exist?

I know there are ways of converting the signals from your guitar into digital signals used to control synths, I'm not going to spend a lot of money on external equipment though

Audio to midi does that, there's Jam Origin MIDI Guitar-polyphonic

or for free there's Melda MTuner, enable the midi out monophonic only

Thanks! I have the MTuner, I thought it was just a tuner though

Jamorigin midi Guitar is amazing imo.

I got way too much latency with the MTuner, I'll try to demo the Jam Origin istead and see how it works

If you don't need to do it live (think you probably do though..), but want a midi file of your playing, then this is excellent - best polyphonic conversion I've seen so far, and free.

Jam Origin has too much latency, and I can't get bending to work. When I bend a note it just jumps to the next, and when I play a note with vibrato it sounds awful. MOscillator, I found out, can follow the pitch of an instrument, bending notes and vibrato works relatively fine, and there's a lot less latency. It can't be used to control another synth though

Thanks for this. I think that could come in handy, though I long ago abandoned guitar for any synthesizer control.

To the OP, there will always be latency when doing this kind of conversion because the computer needs several full cycles before it can decide what note you’re playing and during the attack phase of a struck string, there a lot of noise. It’s not too bad on high notes, as the cycle is a lot shorter, but with low notes it becomes noticeable.

My advice is to abandon ship. Learn how to use a keyboard. It’s actually easier than guitar in many ways. The Hydrasynth is pretty affordable and had polyphonic aftertouch, which makes it more expressive in the way a guitar can be. If you really want the real deal, a Roli Rise or Linnstrument is fantastic and well worth the price.

I have played heyboards since I was a kid, I know how to play. I might not be concert pianist material, I'm still quite experienced. I'm looking for a way around playing bass, mainly as I don't actually own a bass, and I'm also not very good on bass. The plan was to hook my guitar up to Wedge Force Keemun and use that through a bass amp plug in. I was also thinking of using it with physically modelled instruments or other types of synthezised or sampled stringed instruments

A better advice would be to learn how to play bass guitar better, which I actually might take up. It would have been fun to play the Koto or Shamisen as well though

I agree, they all have too much latency.

I like the Madcatz rock band mustang plastic midi guitar.

I use the MadCatz Fender Squier Rockband,
which I have dosed with a MIDI script.
It has a fret sensing fretboard, it's advantageous

I have the Mustang too, which also has a script from me

here's the mustang script as an .exe RunBeer, me awld mucker
I think it's more like a guitar with this one

Have you tried Modo Bass?

Great thread!

Play bass and use Melodyne to tighten it up. It's pretty amazing for that. For Koto or Shamisen, maybe check out the Strum features of the Keystep 37.

Is the script available as just the MIDI, not an exe (for Mac users)?

No, I have plenty of bass plug ins though, the already mentioned Keemun, Native Instruments Scarbee MM and Scarbee Rickenbacker and Waves two bass plugins. My issue with all of these is not how they sound, it's that I play bass lines a lot more naturally on a guitar. I can cheat a bit and work around it, it's still a lot more practical to play bass lines with a guitar, or a bass I guess

I actually managed to get a natural bass sound, using the guitar to play and with no latency, using ReValver 4. I used one of their bass models, lowered the key one octave using their pitch effect, and ran it through a bass amp and cabinet. Without lowering the key it actually sounded great, when I lowered the key using the pitch shifter the sound deteriorated. Perhaps I can fix it with some EQ-ing though
