Can I change the character of my voice?

What techniques do you know for changing the character of one's voice?
I am very much a tenor, but for this one particular track, I want to sound like, say, Leonard Cohen. Can that be done?
I don't want to clone his voice exactly. Neither do I want it to sound robotic or artificial. Just a good compromise between my tenor voice and some other much deeper voice.
Recording just after I wake up really helps, but I still need some production technique tips for this.

Also get as close as you can to the microphone for extra proximity effect. Just eat it. Works really well with dynamic mikes like SM-58. This is how Frank Farian did the low voice for Boney M.

Don't know if this is helpful or not, but here are three examples I, a mere amateur, snipped out of my works:

Open, normal, and closed-off throat. Slightly lower, normal, and higher registers. Different attitudes while performing. Probably also lowering and elevating of chin in concert with open, normal, and closed-off throat. It's important (for me anyway) to rather closely monitor my volume level because slight changes make a big difference.
Almost forgot to say: I try to think of my microphones as instruments to be played using my voice.

Not for realtime jobs, but Waves Ultrapitch has some features I find useful.
- pitch up and down an octave as I recall
- continuous formant switch like from femail to mail voice
They have components for more voices too, if to make a chorus and harmonies and stuff.
But it's 8000 samples delay, so not for realtime.
