I've noticed a lot of plugin developers recommend i5 or i7 processors and it makes me wonder if Intel performs better than AMD. Thanks

Some works better with Intel and some with AMD.
For plug-ins(Melda/2Caudio/Acustica Audio) that support AVX-512, AMD should be faster.

At default settings the Intel produces too much heat, more heat = more noise.

Thanks! That's a lot to digest.
Do you think the AMD 5700G would be good for music production?
Thanks

You are welcome.
Works, but it is just a bit more than the 5600X you see in the DAWBench chart.
I would try to get something better like Intel Core i5-13500/Intel Core i5-13600K.

A concern for me is how the DAW or Plugins using the P vs E cores. If a Plugin from a Bus or Master is using an E core it slows down the processing.
The Intel are perfect Render and Multithread CPU.
But what is if plugins are using the E cores? Could this not slow down the full chain to this e core speed.?
Run a AMD 7700x , since release and really happy with the power. A 7600 should have also a good power.
The Intel are good, and multi core speed are cheaper. Whilst the 3D Cache ist not underestimated. There are Rumors for a 5600X3D for Feb next Years.
I was using Intel CPUs fir years, fir audio processing. intel Haswell Xeon 4 Core, the 8086 wth 5 Ghz, moved to.AMD.

Independent if the CPU is better or worse, cheap or expensive, I prefer the AMD.
The 5600X3D is a failed 5800X3D and no onboard GPU.
By looking at the DAWBench chart, we see no problem with the E-Cores.
From the guy who made the DAWBench test.
https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.ph ... count=1292
"Also, why would you remove the E-Cores to the overall processing overhead, as once the P-Cores are loaded the E-Core supply additional processing.
Anyone who has disabled E-Cores completely in a DAW environment will quickly realise how much processing they have lost.
I have already made the point that "E-Cores" although not as powerful as P Cores, are more like Mid Cores, especially compared to Apples Small/E-Cores. They have processing power of around an Intel 8-9th Gen, and with the large number and in combination can easily keep with AMD's more traditional all full cores. Evidenced in Benchmarks and Real World DAW Application."

So I got a I-7 5500 (kina outdated) and I'm wondering how much better a 5700G AMD would be.
My i5 5500 works all right for most older plugins but like a lot of the newer ones I have to be really strategic about it.
I'm not like in super producer mode just basically a hobbyist.
I bought a Mac Mini M1 and I didn't really care for it. Just not a Mac person I guess.
Would a 5700g AMD be better than a Mac M1 Mini? But then there's the whole hard drive issue w/ the M1 where the hard drive you can't update that I know of.
I did kind of like logic though it has some cool features I was going to try to do a Dante network with my current PC and the M1 to run plugins I couldn't run on the PC but I couldn't get it to work at the time when it first came out.
I don't know I just know I need to get a better computer setup probably this year.

For the vast majority of DAW applications/scenarios/plugins, the 13900k is slightly faster than the 7950x (and slightly less expensive).
The 14900k is basically a 13900ks (shouldn't have been called 14th Gen)
I've tested 14900k, 13900k, and 7950x side-by-side.
Cinebench R23 Multi-Core is also a quick/easy way to fairly accurately gauge/compare performance.
The claims in the above video/s are a bit "click bate".
We have many professional clients running the 13900k and 14900k.
Heat with the 13900k and 14900k is not a problem... but, you need robust large AIO cooling.
The 7950x also needs robust large AIO cooling.
A D15 isn't going to suffice under load.
You see videos of folks using an air-cooler for the Storm Peak 7980x.
Under load, there's no way an air-cooler is going to dissipate 350w TDP.
Common sense...
The summarize, there's nothing wrong with the AMD 7xxx series CPUs.
Low latency audio performance (unlike the original Threadripper) is on-par with Intel.
Both can run the likes of ToneX clean at 96k using an ASIO buffer size as low as 24-samples.
AMD is just slightly more expensive... for slightly lower performance.
In real-world use, you wouldn't notice an appreciable difference between the 14900k, 13900k, and 7950x.

Cool! I've got my eye on a hp PC that's got a i7-13700. Seems like a decent price too.
