I would like to believe that anyone looking for an SH-5 would be more sophisticated than that, but then I don't spend time on Gearspace.

Post

That might be the first time I've seen "sophisticated" and "Gearspace" mentioned in the same sentence. :hihi:

I actually think the hardware discussion here is better than on GS, at least when a thread has a bit of interest.

GS also seems to have been more recently taken over by people whose synth interests lie in the past.... 40-50 yes in the past. No techno there.

Actually, now I've thought about it. Shame on you Behringer for not having 2 ADSR envelopes and no looping on those shitshow envelopes you have. And only 3 filters + extra bandpass...pffft! Where are the vowel filters, the Virus phasing filters and the wavetables. I mean, my god, this is 3rd millenium - it should have 500 presets at least. If you think you can placate me with sync, ringmod, 2 LFOs, 2 envelopes, 4 filters, oscillators that make my bowels empty and velocity sensitivity on an analogue VCO synth for the price of a weekend out on the piss, then...I'll buy 2 of the fkn things. :hihi:

More seriously, this could make me fall in love with Roland again. They've been pants for decades, but Behringer have brought back the love. MS5, JT16 - When I was into Roland all those years ago I never dreamed I could get these. I made do with shitty Junos, although a 202 + 303 made for some jollies. I had occasional access to a JP6 for those special moments. But seriously - a Jupiter on steroids and a proper SH - this is a great time to be into synths and at an age where it costs pocket money.

The Roland flavour of synthesis is a very good one for sure. I'm surprised noone has really tried to recreate this before (except the many 303 clone attempts).

:hihi: ... indeed.

I don't need, nor will I be getting one, but this synth sounds really good and kinda 'quirky/edgy' in a cool way, to me, and would be a great controller for something like the (gee-I-don't-know) Kobol Expander.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

The introduction video sounds promising to me.

No offense meant. I could have said "No more:" ... ;)

No worries. :)

Sadly, it's likely to be 2025 until they sell it down here. Still no UBXas on the market yet, and that's almost yesterday's synth already. They'll have announced at least 15 new synths before I get my hands on the current ones. :tantrum:

Fuckit! I'm going to get a K2 to satiate my gear last. All these new toys that I can't get have given me an insatiable itch. Just spotted that K2 is going for NZ$399, which is a great price for here. Seem to be some price slashing of some older Behringer units recently (which makes me think maybe they're going to be culled?). Got a Cat for $399 recently, and Wasps dropped in price, yet other models still over-priced. E.g the Pro800 thing is $800 here. 2600s go for up to $1400 :o . Maybe a new MS20 will be a temporary ointment to salve my itch....
