I figure members of this section do the most rendering, so I'm hoping someone will be able to help.

I have a file I rendered in CubaseSX 2.2 in the .ogg format because I've read it uses VBR encoding, I am trying to get roughly the same file size as I would for an mp3, but with the quality of a vbr .wma (the prob with .wma is my mac friends can't open it).

However, the resulting file ("overture-test.ogg") won't open with either my iTunes or WMP - and I have the latest version of both AFAIK.

Anything I am overlooking?

I know this is a long shot... but do you have the codec installed? Encoding apps such as OggDrop encode just fine without having the codec installed, but players naturally depend on it.

Neither of the players you mentioned support ogg directly. So it's codec hunting time for, I guess

I agree with JMH, it's most likely a codec issue.
Unless you're sure you're Mac friends have appropriate codecs installed I'd probably stick with MP3.

I pretty sure that neither iTunes nor WMP play ogg files. Try Winamp or, even better, foobar2000.

iTunes on the Mac at least will play ogg files if you install the quicktime ogg component but that's not something most people will be able to do for themselves.

Thanks guys - I actually found a drag-and-drop .ogg file player from their official site so... for now we'll use that.

OT: Ogg Vorbis help.
