HOST: Traktion

DRUMS: RM-F, DR 005, Drumatic, etc

SAMPLER: sfz, HOPEkILLER, etc

SUBTRACTICE SYNTH: Synth1, polyIblit, TriangleII, FreeAlpha, etc

ALL-PURPOSE: Crystal

EFFECTS: Kjaerhus Classic, MDA, SIR, Digital FishPhones, etc

What more could you need? That is a seriously powerful set-up, especially when you think about how many banks are available around here for many of them. How stupid are we spending money?

I mainly agree BONES. This is almost my setup. However, judging by the mp3 demos I 'd love to have BFD for drums and Trilogy for bass but I can't afford them. Anyway , I am just hobbyist Wink

Tracktion isn't free anymore. Are there any other free host/sequencer programs?

I personally could not survive without being able to record audio. But that is quite a functional setup you mentioned.

Yes, I know it does, but you have to have a microphone too, and you probably wont find a decent one and a preamp for free. Wink

but... you can get a decent condenser mic for 60 bucks and one of thoes Behringer 1 channel mixers for even cheaper.

I agree and I disagree.

I agree that with free synths you can do amazing music. (synth 1, superwave, ugo synths, polyblit, shortcircuit free...)

and I agree that sometimes we are always tempted by the best commercial stuff and then we only use their presets, which is a bit limited and untalented.

BUT we cannot have this as a bible, I mean, there are commercial products which are really really very interesting and not able to have a free counterpart with the same quality. Why should we refuse to pay some money (not too much, for example Wusikstation costs less than 100 euros, reaktor not 300...) for amazing products anyway and combine them with the amazing free available products?
