Hi!

If I'm using Battery with Cubase Sx2 and I want to work with step-input drum programing then it would be pretty handy to see the names of the different drumsounds in the drum editor. The problem is that the different kits that I load into Battery do not use the GM standard, there might e.g. be 10 different kicks in a kit and often they have quite odd names.

What I would like to now is if there is any way to automaticlly create a drummap based on the kit loaded into Battery which could be loaded into Cubase's drumeditor instead of having to do this manually for every kit that I use?

Thanks in advance

No - if the person creating the kit doesn't conform to an established standard, there's no automatic way to read their mind. In some ways it's convenient to have standards like GM, but in other ways that is very restricting. Before GM was invented, people just mapped any sound to any midi note and just made their own unique music. I think you will find beginners like to stick to GM, or pro's who like to collaborate. But many pro's making great music don't necessarily work in a regimented fashion.

An alternative that might work for you is simply to split your drum parts into seperate midi tracks. If you have a track for your 'Kick drum', you don't have to worry about a midi map. You just pick the note that has the sample you like - maybe a different kick for intro, verse, chorus, bridge and outro ... freedom. Helps mixing too.
