Purchased some unbalanced cable (the real noisy kind) and connected my guitar amp input to the output of my EMU 1820m. Got some nice feedback going, then messed around with the recordings.

exheridate

Post

I think that's more commonly spelled exheredate. Does that mean you've disowned the track or you've disowned us for not responding?

I've listened to this a couple of times, but couldn't figure out what to say. I like parts of it, but I found myself getting impatient with it.

wow this track really scares the hell out of you...I was listening to it loud (cause i love loud music) and this was...scary!

Hey shamann well I work in a law office(if that gives me any credibility) the way you spelled is more common, I used the less common way cause I just read one of those African inheritance spam emails and that's how the author of that letter spelled it Hotmail spam detection really doesn't work well at all by the way.

Anyway thanks for listening and saying you did. I appreciate that fact.

Falconmusic I love loud music too (but not with too much in the high frequency range). A full on reaction (the exclamation point certifies full on) like being scare as hell is excellent. Thanks for listening.

I'm quite pleased to see that scam emails are using such a broad vocabulary.

Very sharp. Would be very fitting for a suspensful segment of a film or a game. Reminds me of the first Silent Hill game, and that is the most eerie time I've had near a TV set.

Post

Yup those African scammers are helping me achieve higher SAT scores. That's why I read them all the waythrough at least twice, sometimes taking notes on Grammar and Word choice.

Thanks for listening Shuzhen.

I don't really have TV, but I have played mario brothers a long time ago. It wasn't too scary.

8) Stuff. Kind of in the same head space as some of respirator's work, though fairly differently handled.

I think it would benefit from some sonic contrast, though. I'm thinking something along the lines of some small tinkly stuff or some percussive clangorous sounds, something with sharper attack transients to give us a little something extra and to liven up the aural space. They would also allow you to play with panning a bit more, as the big washes of sound here tend to appear fairly mono.

Maybe take a listen to a my last two or three entries (the GammaMelt3 or Doors links in my sig or Until the Isban Moon that I posted today. All these are encorporate a little of what I'm taking about, though they're also meant to be a little more active than this more droning entry.

Like what you've got here, though. I love it when people are open to different and less-than-obvious sound sources.

BTW, I've responded to several of those African emails. I'm currently waiting for more than $145,000,000 to be directly deposited into my checking account! :dog:

And if you want to bump one of my threads, I wouldn't mind a note at:
Until the Isban Moon
Double Doors of the Horizon
or Gamma Melt 3 A little cross pollination isn't bad is it?

Hi emdot. Thanks for the listening and for the tips.

I'll reciprocate.
:)

Would you prefer The Auditorium or Here?

Very unusual sounds 8)
I love what those first couple swells do around 1:00...very odd. Could maybe use a few more suprises here and there, but I like it as is.

Post

I agree about there being more swells. There is a reason why there wasn't. When I was messing around with the mics, my monitoring system, and my guitar amp, I only created a couple of really loud feedback occasions.

Of course I could have always gone back and created more, but that would have ruined the spontaneity of the piece. ;)

Thanks for listening.

Post

Very cool piece, but I agree with emdot that it could use some more contrasts.

It reminds me a bit of a project a friend of mine did. He recorded his noisy Soundblaster output directly into the same soundblaster, and got lots of cool noises and faint feedback and stuff, then made an album worth of songs with it.

If you want weird percussive and/or not sounds, take the samples you already have, use whatever program you prefer and timestretch the hell out of them. Extend the time by 10% each time, repeat a LOT, the sound will break up entirely and you can sometimes find some really nifty little melodies and cool stuff in the remains.

Post

I was just thinking of doing that same thing with my soundcard last night. Actually its one of those built into the motherboard soundcards (secondary internet computer). So it is probably nosier than a SoundBlaster

Thanks for the time stretching idea that sounds like something interesting to try out tonight.

Thanks again for listening
