There are many reasons why I use ppd TRITIUM (v4.2) in many productions.

First of all it is one of the most reliable VSTi I've ever used. Down to the present day, I've not managed to crash it. And I've tried hard...

Moreover, it's simplicity has convinced me from the moment I used if for the first time. It didn't even take a closer look to understand how this machine works. You see the 6 knobs and there you go (don't foget to click the "TRITIUM" logo to have a look at its behind for further tweaking). Simplicity is a big advantage, when you are someone like me who prefers to use his "own" sounds. Complexity often keeps me from really understanding how to create a certain sound. Never had that problem when using TRITIUM.

In my view, it does not sound like freeware at all. Though, I use it for bass lines mainly (great for dnb, electro) it's great for lead sounds and even synth pads, too (e.g. for house, trance). Yep, unlike many other freeware (bass) synths TRITIUM is a POLYPHONIC rascal. Another big plus...

Surely, TRITIUM is limited somehow coz it offers only one square/saw oscillator at a time. But once you've found out what it can do you won't think of this as a limitation anymore. Keep in mind that every sound parameter can be controlled via MIDI. Very important for the liveliness of a sound.

Finally, you will find all the necessary infos in the included manual.

I love this synth. The filter has a wonderfully abrasive resonance, and the oscillator sounds very high quality for one of these silver box emulators. I have used it to great effect several times, both as a main lead and also to replace the slightly limp (don't get me wrong, Orion is GOD!) Bazzline in orion pro. I love the extra parameters (velocity control, etc.) that can be tweeked when you clik on the "tritium" name on the front - lots of flexibility in a single oscillator bassline synth...Especially for the price ! :~) With a little eq, I can get anything from deep sub warmth, to ear-twitching crisp filtersweeps. Well, unlike almost everyone else, I don't mind this VSTi. It sounds pretty reasonable to me! While the GUI is very plain, it is certainly functional. While I admit I haven't actually written a tune using it yet (other VSTis always seem to fit better) I can certainly imagine it fitting nicely within a techno style track.

Well worth the download.

Though the architecture is extremely simple and not very flexible, it does have it's own biting character that may be useful at times and the CPU utilization is extremely low by today's standards. There could be times when this kind of instrument may be exactly the kind of thing you need to dial up a sound very quickly and want a no-nonsense user interface without numerous menus or pages filled with parameters.

I do get the impression that this is attempting to fill the shoes of a poor man's 303 or Novation Bass Station and while it can produce some of those kinds of textures, the quality of the oscillators and filter is not really there to emulate those very faithfully to me.

One criticism of the knobs is that they are circular motion controlled, so they're a little funky to use (to me, anyways) unless your host offers global control over this behavior.

If you're looking for a freeware bassline instrument, this may have what you're looking for. After all, it's free, so what have you got to lose?

I don't like this Bassline. It sounds thin and squeeky. If it must be for free then I would recommend the Muon Tau instead. If you are willing to spend some money: Go and buy "ReFX TBL" or "Muon Tau Pro"!!!
