Swedish developer eLAB unveiled their new Ignition-Virtual-Instrument (I.V.I) technology at NAMM.

Of the three instruments shown the first to be released will be Obsession - an 8 track Rex2 player, with a massive 3 GB of loops and samples designed for RnB, HipHop and Pop producers (scheduled for release second quarter of 2004). Obsession will soon be followed by more massive 3GB loop I.V.I. engines/libraries with other style content (Foundation and Perfection next in line).

eLAB feels this is a beginning of a new era in the company's history - the launch of truly innovative, technology. Especially since the I.V.I. engine is loaded with extensive real-time control, creation and manipulation of grooves. The I.V.I. engine uses the Propellerheads REX2 format to retain state-of-the-art sound quality with usability in time stretching the loops into any kind of tempo - all in real-time.

All loops will also be available in user friendly versions: Kick, snare, hi hat, etc. will all be presented as individual tracks within the I.V.I. engines. This together with extensive editing possibilities, Filter, Envelopes, Tuning and an extensive modulation matrix, just to name a few will give users all the tools to move away from the limitation of drum loops as full, complex elements, hard to deal with in production and mix.

All eLAB I.V.Is also come with an intuitive, extensively organized directory with auditioning capabilities built into the interface. Loading times are extremely fast - even large, complex multi patches take only a few seconds. Users will also be able to import their own REX2 files into the engine.

Obsession will be available for Windows XP and Mac OS X in VST and Audio Units formats. Price is to be confirmed.
