COMPATIBILITY INFO FOR SONIVOX

Film Score Companion is a comprehensive music composition software suite comprised of five individual instrumental collections, geared to the demanding needs of music, filmmakers and game creators. It's designed to be the most complete, most accurate and lifelike, easiest-to-use music creation tool for music, films and games that has ever been done.

This is an expansive suite of recording comprised of 5 distinct collections:

  • Orchestral Companion Strings - 9 GB library—9 GB library comprising string ensembles for 1st violins, 2nd violins, violas, cellos and basses. Articulations include sustains, espressivo, staccato, pizzicato, tremolos and more.
  • Orchestral Companion Brass—5 GB library comprising Solo and Ensemble Trumpets, Solo and Ensemble Trombones, Solo and Ensemble French Horns and Tuba. Articulations include sustains, staccato, marcatto, mutes, and more.
  • Orchestral Companion Woodwinds—9 GB library comprising Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon. Solo and ensembles versions of each as well as full woodwind ensemble patches.
  • Eighty Eight Ensemble—11 GB collection featuring a Steinway 9-foot CD337 Concert Grand, recorded in the same hall as the orchestral instruments for a perfect mix.
  • Big Bang Cinematic Percussion—15 GB library of 200 different percussion instruments ranging from classical to ethnic to pure raw power hits.

Each of the 5 collections above is also available and sold separately. Customers who may own Eighty Eight or Big Bang Cinematic Percussion are eligible to upgrade at a reduced price.

Each patch and preset is easily playable by virtually any level of performer. All instruments are presented in multi-velocity layers, with natural swells available via the modulation wheel. MIDI key-switching provides on-the-fly articulation changes for select patches. The internal sound engine provides additional modulation (LFO) sources, dynamic envelope control, and studio-grade reverb/effects to allow creative customization of the onboard sounds.

Award-winning engineers Antonio Oliart and John Bono recorded everything at the legendary Futura Productions studios in Massachusetts. Members of the Boston Pops and Boston Ballet Orchestras played all performances with the same premium instruments they use for their actual concerts. A combination of spot and ambient mic'ing captured every instrumental nuance, while preserving the refined acoustics of the performance space itself. Benchmark-caliber preamps fed premium-level A/D convertors to complete a pristine audio signal chain, resulting in impeccable realism.

The players were positioned using orchestrally-correct seating, and measures were even taken to compensate for the sound-absorption effect of any players absent on that particular day.

"This collection provides an important offering for composers looking to add dramatic orchestration or musical effects to their productions. Of course a beautiful sounding set of instruments came first, but we also insisted the collection be extremely playable so busy composers can get their tracks produced quickly, " said Jennifer Hruska, Vice President of Software Development at SONiVOX. She added, "I'm particularly proud of how these instruments can be used for intimate passages or huge dramatic moments, something most orchestral offerings on the market can't do."

Each collection runs as a fully compatible plug-in with any VST (32 or 64-bit), AU (64-bit), and AAX (32 or 64-bit) for Pro Tools 10.3 or higher Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software.

Great sounds, with a bit poor VST compatibility. It is the first time that I don't find plugins in the list of callable VST. In the list there are only 2 versions of BigBang of the others there is no trace. Is it a my client's fault? it's possible! Why has it never happened to me and BigBang plug-ins appears correctly?

I always thought that the giant orchestra libraries are useful to pro orchestrators.

Companion collections are so immediate to use to compose and color a new song, a new theme.

as you immediately understand which type of arrangement your work need for.

Price and sound quality of course .are the perfect goal to decide the purchase.

There's a reason I'm giving this product 5 stars... The quality. The sounds are top notch and for this price, passing up on an offer like this? You won't be dissapointed. Everything you need is in one of these 5 products.

That said...

Yes, the drums do crash, every time. Drove me nuts until I found (thanks to you, the guy who posted on one of the forums) that all you need to do is click 'learn' (centre, off to the left a little), it's a little bit of a pain to remember to do it every time but a (very) small price to pay for the massive collection of sounds at your disposal. Thought I'd share that here to lessen the frustration.

The other thing that niggles at me a little is the time it takes for each sound to load, not much of a niggle and again, considering the sheer amount of sounds, it's not really too surprising.

Overall, simply unbeatable value for money, they're more expensive to buy as single instruments, and you get them all for this crazy price?

Do it :-).

Good sounds, especially Strings and '88' (Pianos). However, when attempting to play fast, repetitive Brass patches, the sounds get cut off. Also, there is at least one bad sample in the Flutes patch (e.g., E above middle-C) where the attack is cut off upon playing with medium or greater velocity. Percussion crashes frequently upon receipt of MIDI (e.g., played key).

Unbelievably good for the money. Woodwinds, brass and strings are great. The piano seems very deep. The Big Bang orchestral percussion crashes whenever it receives MIDI. Oh well, maybe it'll get updated?

You need to click on the "Learn" button first before feeding it any MIDI. Obscure, I know, but it seems to be the only workaround. I don't believe for a minute that these plug-ins will ever be updated but I picked the whole bundle up for $20 and many of the sounds are very good indeed.
