This is new to me and a very astounding plugin. Can do a lot of things for beats and I don't think there is anything else quite like this. Fun and serious. Check it out with demo. I will have many hours of time to play with this. Just great.

Layer Engine

This looks very interesting. However after downloading Rapsody and then putting it into the common files folder under VST3 I scan on my DAW-Cantabile 4. Worked. Loading up the VST but when I selected this free sample file for Rapsody it proceeded to crash the DAW. Tried again but same results. Something is not working right with this.

Response from eoinybony from Samplesonics on January 24th, 2024

Hi, thanks for the review.

Layer engine has just been updated to version2 and is now working with rhapsody 2.3.3.

I basically rebuilt it again because the last version had too many problems. Most of these problems have been addressed in version 2.

It's still free to download and use and if you have the time you're always welcome to try the latest version.

Thanks.

Eoin.

Synth1

Aside what the previous review by meru was. Does she need glasses or is her computer strange. I found nothing valid in her review. Synth1 is not overrated and is perhaps the most popular free synth out there and has been for years. Everything, at least on my computer is easy to see and adjust and has it's own unique sound. What to speak of the thousands of available banks for this great synth. The complaint that the Gui is ugly is hardly a valid point as it can be make very nice looking with adjustable custom colours and the fonts are clear. In her review he does not recommend any free synths that could be comparable. That would be a plus if it were so. At any rate she is no doubt in the minority on this. Long live Synth1.

Poise is now free with both 32 and 64-bit support. Including samples too. Different skins are also available. This a great drum sampler with lots of adjustments available and no problems. Maybe it's a forgotten gem? Anyone interested in drum vsti should not miss out on this. I am now using it more often than every just because it has got all you need for a drum sampler. And it is FREE now.

This was a nice surprise as it has rather a different approach to sound generation. Still trying it out and seeing what does what but I like what seems to be possible even though the sounds can be harsh and a bit unpredictable, still this is a new adventure in sound experiments. Thanks to the developer for a new look at ways to bend a synth.

Beat Chopper

Well this is in beta beta so it's not perfect yet. I do like the fact that it can select the chop in different ways very easily. The one big problem is the clicking at the end of the sound. So Zero crossing needs to be implemented. Looking forward to it's further development.
