Another FM video with cracked Sylenth. ...and Martin Garrix.

Damn this Spinnin Records. I'd like to send some track to them one day ... so no point in being a d**k against them, but trust me I'm tempted so much to contact them and ask for opinions on this. It's basically a working bussiness with illegal assets...

Even being a Dev myself and going through all this over and over.... That made me Laugh! Yaaaa.... remember when spandex "out performed" Leather.highkoo wrote:Wait, is this like the new punk rock?
Like, instead of smashing amps with guitars and throwing drums, you pirate software and title your album 'My keygen fexxed Lennars arse!'?
Linux instead of heroin..?
Back on topic though, Strange all these "Professional Videos" showing it publicly.

It also shows how deep damn is all the industry in. Martin supposed to be ghostproducer for someone originally, then he got signed. People had to hear his warez friendly named tracks yet nobody advised him to rename them. ...it all makes me sad. I mean all those money I pumped to plugins I could invest to family, to my car that isn't in 100% shape, I could go on pretty nice vacation or something. Its really not just "so what" feeling. You really have to sacrifise things in your life in order to pay for your software. It really is not fair. I feel like lame little kid crying in kindergarden now, but it just isn't right.

its ironic that it was the music industry who where crying about "home taping is killing music" when i was a kid and now we get musicians/producers pulling that shit on the people that make the tools they use....

I find it very ironic that because of the cracked version, Lennard gets a lot more publicity than if this kid had used a legal copy.
IMO, there is NO excuse to use cracked software, no matter how poor or rich or famous you are.
The Avicii excuse of not being able to use a different skin on his own copy is crap.
I hacked the Sylenth dll to change the skin and it still shows my name in the GUI.

Now, technically, modifying the dll yourself is just as against the license as using some other modification.Karten wrote:I find it very ironic that because of the cracked version, Lennard gets a lot more publicity than if this kid had used a legal copy.

Technically, a "crack" can be implemented using a diff patch tool.
So unless we get into details of what is fair or isn't fair, they're the same thing.
Again, technically the DMCA comes into play in both cases although you will be more familiar with the clause concerning copy-protection.
If we do get into details, using a crack or patch is just as fair as modifying the dll yourself if you need it modified and already own a valid license. It is equally against the terms of the license (if it prohibits modification, reverse engineering, etc) anyway.
Also in my opinion it is entirely reasonable to be able to spread these diff patches as much as you like, outside the argument that they are unlicensed derivative of the original work of course.
By the way, the argument that a "trainer" or diff is derivative has case-law against it already.
Likewise for screenshots though! Keep that in mind that the only reason we use screenshots is a combination of fair-use justification and the willingness of the copyright holders.

Again - one big question is popping up:
Why do we users need to burn, while these so called "professional" users can do whatever the funk they want, even get filmed while doing so, yet feel no repercussions.
If I'd be a developer, I'd get in touch with my lawyer and also block this user for a lifetime to purchase anything from me (or rather my servers) from now on. And if I'd then read bad press (through Tweets or Facebook), I'd even force a cease and desist for defamatory statement, since the artist/company in question stole form me in the first place.
It doesn't matter if I see this as "free promotion" - this would not be okay towards my legit customers. But, I am no developer. And the reality is usually always like "you know, your lawer is just a small fish, we're a big company - so shoo! Back to your dog basket!"
I can totally understand all sides of the debate. But this... we are talking about high-rollers here. Professionals that get like 100k or more a year. If they're a DJ, they make 2-3k a night(!), always have the latest gear, smoke and drink (or even worse: do drugs). Yet they can not affort a synth that is 140EUR (excl. VAT, you even get the VAT back if you do your taxes in Europe!).
Strange world.

i guess its because the cost of a lawyer would outweigh the possible returns. ok, if you win (here in the uk at least) the other side is then made to pay the legal costs, but you still have to pay up front before reimbursement, and if you lose, youre liable for the costs.
im ot sure there are many smaller devs who could afford this.
which is why we probably dont see cracks of massive or protools in these vids as they know those companies do have the resources.

From those track titles you can just tell his imagination is a fertile field of interesting and contrasting imageryVitaminD wrote:djanthonyw wrote:If you look at his soundcloud page, pretty much all of his track titles are related to piracy...
