Sure, that sounds interesting. But again, for the purposes discussed in this thread, auto mapping of velocities is way more important and useful then auto mapping of pitches. The user generally knows what note they're playing. Velocity is much less precise.

Velocity is a bit more complex in terms of variability but I suspect the algorithms are a lot more simple than for pitch.

In that case yes, once the very rough version of the plugin is working focus can immediately be shifted to the velocity/envelope detection and from there it should be easy to make it actually work. I'll try it out and post it when I get something that actually allows you to sample a set of notes.
