try ixoxflute, i don't know about jazzy flutes but you have control over the sound, and it's free :)

If you want to go all out for a flute, Tassman does a lovely one.

..thanks! nice soundfont by ixxox! absolutely what i was searching for!

I was gonna say Ixox but since everyone mentioned Ixox I'll mention Reaktor 5 instead. The Steampipe instrument is stunning. A bit expensive for just a flute sound but hey...

great! if you want other options, try synful orchestra, it's a little expensive perhaps but for a 'try out' the 15 day trial period might suffice.
see:http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1460.html

or for a challenge that's free, see if you can get the sound from xoxos' physical modelling plugs http://www.xoxos.net/vsti.html#models

Great... :D

As the sound is rather "dirty/airy" (and there's a knob to make it even dirtier if you use the VST) i think it can be OK for Jazz....

Be sure to check out our free Mini Dizi VSTi. If you want a more professional flute sound, then you definitely should consider ChineeWinds VSTi(which comes with a 355 mb sound content). The best flute VSTi money can buy... :)

There's also DMIFlute, which also can turn out some wicked leads. :)

I dig this flute. It holds up really well in a mix, and as mentioned, it's pretty dirty to begin with and you can dirty it up more with the settings. Throw some reverb on it, and maybe a little light chorus and you're good to go for jazz.

Yep, just what most others have recommended - Ixoxflute!! For a freebie, its fantastic! I've just used it in a track and it sits really well in a mix - impressive stuff :)
