I no longer believe that auto-save causes crashes (at least very rarely, that I know of). It has also saved me from a lot of reconstructive work.
Sample players can be the "N***** in the woodpile". A sample player may have 16 channels, but loading it up with too many instruments can definitely cause crashes, especially during edit portions with high note density. Solve this by bringing down a new incident of the sample player and start a new multi.
Sample player has started crashing when I attempt to load an instrument that I have just imported. Don't know how to solve this. (Once again, auto-save always saves my bacon when this happens).
I can say for sure that Traction doesn't like it when you mess with the edit while it's playing.
There have been other situations that I have been able to solve, but I can't remember what they were.

I just installed T3 Ultimate Bundle w/the Mckie Onyx satellite. Tracktion keeps random poof crashing, and when it does play it skips, pops and crackles.
The computer is a brand new Dell dual core Intel processor w 4gb of ram. It's certainly not that the computer can't keep up. I also have a Realtek HD audio sound card.

To answer my own question: better. Kontakt 3 has been pretty stable. Kontakt2 still crashes. Actually, what it does is it uses so much CPU that I have to hard reboot. I'm so happy NI had that cheap upgrade to K3 a while back.pough wrote:I wonder if Kontakt3 will be better or worse than Kontakt2...
Surely there must be consensus by now...

using T3 3.0.4.8 on Macbook Pro OsX 10.5.6.
I consistently get a poof crash when trying to add any of the Mackie T3 plugins as a new filter on a track. I can use the original Tracktion filters with no problem. The T3 plugins used to crash only when I'd add or modify a T3 plugin during playback. It was that way from the very first time I used T3 (I forget which OSX version I was running back then). Now the crash happens all the time, as soon as I insert a T3 plugin, whether or not I'm playing back.
The two things that have changed about my setup after which this failure started happening are:
1) I upgraded to OSX 10.5.6
2) I upgraded the driver for my 828 firewire to MOTU's version 1.4.9 so it would work with 10.5.6.
After those two upgrades, no more T3 plugins for me.
Just to add one more voice to the greek chorus: is this software still being maintained/developed? It's sure still being sold.
