hi
i was wondering if there is a free alternative to zero-g beat creator for windows??

thanx in advance

Post

i just found wavesurgeon, havent had time to play with it yet,but it should basicly do the same as beat creator, can anyone confirm this??

Post

Let me know how you get on with this. I like beatcreator but it seems that their website has been down for some time now. Shame cos with a few updates it could be an essential program.

Post

i dont have time to try wavesurgeon out untill tommorrow.

can anyone knowing it,confirm if it will let me do the same as zero-g beat creator does??

(im thinking about, using it to re-arrange beats in)is that possible??

Post

I haven't tried Wave Surgeon, but I'm having a hard time finding even a payware replacement for (Zero-X) Beat Creator. I spent a week looking for alternatives. The competition is under-spec'd and overpriced, I think.
(Peter, where are you?)
Wave Surgeon doesn't have enough features for me, but I'll be watching this thread. Hopefully, they'll be some good suggestions...

Not free, but cheap ($20) from Bram Bos. Quick and fun way to rearrange beats (even has presets for different arrangements) is TU2. Check it out: http://www.brambos.com/tu2.html demo available.

honestly though, what happened to beatcreator?

i know it got linked up with fruityloops in some way but theres very little info about it anywhere online. if only it were updated with full rx2 compatibility it would surely be a recycle-beater.

+ 1 Billion.

Version 3.0 needs only Rex2 export to be my ultimate groove mangler.

Dont mind my chime in.

Man this is a sad situation. Looks like the ZeroX has gone belly up and with it all of its innovative product. TBH the only even slightly close program to BC is BeatQuantizer which for obvious reasons is also gone. Out side of that I think the closest your going to get (with some of the same technology) would actually be FL. Other than that you'd have to use bits and peices of different aps to acheive the same ends.

Namely (and not free):

LiveSlice
Recycle
Adobe Audition
and again FL

A combination of these will give you pretty much the same functionality of BC3. Good luck with the workflow though.

Wish they'd release the source code so perhaps someone could develop VST versions (wishing..)

If this is your opinion - then go and get it (you can still buy it through image line) if you haven't done so far. Since Rex2 support will never come from non Propellerheads-software. It is a proprietary format and they only allow import, not export. But since ZGR also supported by a lot of software (FL Studio, NI products etc.) and you always can acidize you wavs with BC, I actually do not see why Rex2 export is essential (although I agree that it would be a nice thing to have).

cheers, akj

its not availeble through image-line anymore :help:

so guess the only thing close to that is recycle??

What about Edison and Slic-ex? It seems to me they took on some of the Beatcreator functionality.

Edison and Reaper is a nice combo as Edison slices the beats and you can drag/drop straight into Reaper with cue markers intact ready to be chopped up etc.

Long time ago (in 1998) there was a free program called Amen. I wasn't spoiled then and did find it great. Don't know if it's of any use now.

Amen can only rearrange beats. You can still download it here...

Kind regardz,

Jos

BTW I own Beat Creator and ReCycle. I only use ReCycle now and then (if I need a rex2 file). Cubase 5 can do the same trick now with Groove Agent One.
