Tracktion 3 and Windows 7

I've contacted Loud Tech, and they can say for sure that they are re-developing tracktion for windows 7 32-bit. They could not tell me .... whether this will be an update to tracktion 3 or new standalone software that you will need to buy.

Haha, that would be a wise move, fixing prolly no bugs, just giving it a Win7-proof-button and then - after all that hassle - charging people for it.

Has Microsoft bought Loud?

Wouldnt hurt. What a great free app to rival Garageband.

I've started to test T3 under Win 7 and it looks not bad BUT: T3 isn't able to remeber any changes, newly created or imported projets even where you've put the lame encoder etc. To me it looks like it can't write to the file where it puts all these data in? Does anybody know where this files is, its name and even better has a workaround?

Meanwhile I use Win 7 Home Premium and Tracktion 3 runs fine using the Win XP SP3 compatibilty mode. The above descibed problems were gone after using the final version.
BUT: Another problem occured with my Line 6 UX-2 interface + PODfarm VST in T3. While the combination of T3 & UX-2 were running without any problems under XP SP3 I now get a lot of crackles in the sound. The CPU is not really loaded and I tried different buffersizes in the asio driver of the UX-2 - no real differences.
Has anybody expierenced the same issues?

You might want to try Win7 professional - so long as you have a virtualisation-capable CPU/MB, the OS can run any program seemlessly within a virtualised XP shell - apparently, pretty transparent to the user.
Otherwise try disabling data execution prevention & any antivirus software- may help (but don't be stupid and go online of course!).

I had to use a powered usb hub to eliminate the crackling from my ux2. this was in XP not 7 but maybe thats something to try?

How did you get Win XP compatibility mode using Win 7 Home Premium? It's not offered as a part of Home Premium, so what is the work around?

I'm curious about that, too. I've used VirtualBox and installed a copy of WinXP in that on my Win7-64 system to get some other things working, but hadn't found a way to get any of MS's virtualizations to try out.

I'm running T3 on a Samsung netbook running Windows 7 starter edition and it's going fine. Haven't noticed any of the issues described.

My laptop died last week; as my music making time took a hit with the appearance of baby#1 (and, 2 years later baby#2 due in 11 weeks) I decided to opt for a slightly cheaper and more cheerful replacement machine. A quick trip to eBuyer later and I got a Compaq 615 dual core AMD thingy, with Windows 7: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179694

My old laptop dual booted Win 7 and a dedicated XP install; I decided to go with Win7 / Win7 for this one as you guys didn't seem to have much trouble. I wiped the HDD and did two fresh installs - one for teh interwebs and the other for music.

Everything installed well, and I got my projects back from the old laptop hard-drive. I was using ASIO4ALL drivers without a problem, but then I tried my U46DJ; crackles here and there, so tried my Novation XIO - it was much worse. So I tweaked the shit out of it as it was a Vanilla Win7 install, but it didn't get any better. Disabled pretty much everything I could to no avail. Finally, the solution for me, it seems, was to uninstall the wireless adaptor in Device Manager. As soon as I did this it was back to crackle free operation for both of my external USB soundcards.

Hi, try out changing the setting of the Multimedia Class Scheduler.

Go to the registry:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Currentversion\Multimedia\SystemProfile\SystemResponsiveness

Default value: 20 (decimal)
Range: 20 ... 79

Change the value from decimal 20% to 79%. I would say: The better your maschine the higher the value. I myself have best results with 79.

Hmm. Run Tracktion 3 in Windows XP SP3 compatability mode Why not just leave XP SP3 on your DAW rig I know, I know. Some want to use Win 7 and take advantage of being able to use more than 4 gigs of memory and the so called better performance. I'll wait a while

I don't know if anyone is still checking this thread, but I came across it tonight. I had just upgraded to Windows 7, and installed Tracktion 2. Everything was going great... until I tried to save. When I created a new edit, it appeared in Windows Explorer, but not in Tracktion's project window.

I found this thread, and after reading about other people's experience, I figured I'd have to install WinXP mode to use Tracktion successfully.

But it turned out that I was able to get it working via the Program Compatibility troubleshooter:

This lets Win7 selectively rejigger its settings for programs that aren't working quite right. The troubleshooter was able to figure out that it should apply WinXP SP2 settings to Tracktion. Now when I run Tracktion, the edit saving issues have been completely cleared up, without my needing to set up WinXP mode. I am a happy Tracktion user again!

Update !!! A year later, Im actually running Win 7 Pro with no issues what so ever. Tracktion hums right along (knock on wood).

My setup: Win 7 home premium 64 bit, on a Samsung lappy with a Core i3 processor.

I used T3 with this by running the program as administrator and it worked for a few months for me.

Now, likely after some Win7 updates, whenever I swap between specific edit screen and back to the project screen, T3 quits responding.

I'll have to give the compatibility checker utility a try.

I really don't want to leave Tracktion. Does anyone know of any other DAW software that mixes on the right like Tracktion - the one screen to rule them all, without having to do a transpose to a mixer that runs left to right?

Well, that compatibility mode troubleshooter was able to detect that T3 should run in WinXP mode. A very cursory check of the same project that was giving me fits a couple nights ago is working famously now. I'm really glad I checked ye olde Raw Material Software thread!
