I've noticed that there is a difference between 'live' playing of strum patterns and notes and sequencing exactly the same patterns.

should I be timing MIDI notes differently, putting the keyswitch (for pattern change) first, the MIDI notes first, both before the actual start of the beat that i'd usually put the note on if I were sequencing a piano for example?

Yes, that's the exact way you should sequence it. Of course, things will change and be simpler to sequence with when the update is released, with the strum palette system replacing the strumming arpeggiator engine.

Aha ok. I'll wait for the update before I really delve in.

At the moment I can see 'omfg so much potential' smothered by my own ineptitude :hihi:
