No, this new version completely replaces the old one--so you can remove it, unless you have old projects that require it.

That error is caused by trying to load new patches in an older version of Kontakt 4--you can update Kontakt through the NI Service Center. Unfortunately Kontakt isn't very specific when it comes to error messages...

Oh, great... one of my other libraries has issues with one of the updates. Oh well, not your fault.

What issues with other libraries did the update cause? Just wondering. I'm on the NI beta testing team, so I can check to see if there's a known issue about that.

Did I imagine it? I seem to remember seeing KS C-2, C#-2, D-2, and D#-2 being coloured. Now they are just black. I'm using the latest version of Kontakt.

... and how easy is it to change these KS to upper octaves? I can't access them on my keyboard.

I can absolutely do that for you--just send me an email with the new MIDI notes you want those keyswitches on and I'll edit it for you.
