There are a few ways that you can use sidechaining as an effect quite subtly. One thing I like to do (although I haven't finished anything using this technique yet) is to sidechain my (fairly wet) reverb bus. Much more useful on more percussive/dynamic lead lines (which I gather is what you're dealing with if I understand your explanation correctly) than it is on long uninterrupted sawtooth screams. Gets you the sidechain 'effect' without being quite as invasive as applying it directly to volume. Last edited by cron on Tue Apr 10, 2012 11:26 am; edited 3 times in total |

The only thing I do side-chain is the effects and I might do light side-chaining on the bass. But this is always for mixing and not for effect. +1!1 Folks really need to realize the difference between doing it for mixing and doing it for effect. They are totally different things in the end. |

I reckon side-chained and then a tremelo doing the same sort of thing (plus maybe LFOtool and VolumeShaper3 just to make sure finished with some uber-anal editing to make the pump just unbearable = Winning)
I still call it keying, Im just not cool enough these days All the best to all. Pump 'em all Dean |

Well let me give you an example, a while ago some kid wanted me to sign him to our label, Side-Chayne Masters. He sent me a small sample of his work. It was a joke, all flat. So I fixed it and after we fixed the dynamics problem it actually came out pretty good:

I hardly can't hear it...with VolumeShaper plus additional volume automation it would have been much more impressive... |

I like 90's Euro Dance music with natural sound, no sidechain. The dance music of the 90s was ways more creative than the dance music of today. Today there are much more production techniques, but the tunes lack creativity and originality. Last edited by Tricky-Loops on Tue Apr 10, 2012 4:29 pm; edited 1 time in total |
