On Rob Papen's site, this is mentioned about Albino 3:

Untill end of 2012 available as classic software Rob Papen synthesizer at www.linplug.com

What does it mean? What will happen with Albino after 2012?

Well, the most plausible explanation would be that the world won't exist after 2012... Crying or Very sad

I think Linplug are coming out with their own replacement now that Rob has Predator.

This a very good question... I would love to have an update even if it's just 64bit. Pretty please with white chocolate drops on top:)

Albino has been 64 bit for a while.

For me it's not comparable to Predator (which is also win but for different reasons).

Maybe RL will bring out an Albino 4?

3 has been probably my most use synth for ages always sounds incredible and just slots into a production with ease.

Well, I'm a bit not lucky with talking about it so much in advance, as its not our style to talk about vaporware. But here is what we plan (!): By the end of the year we should have a new "Classic Subtractive Synth" (no name found for it yet, it will not be an "Albino"), and will not be in collaboration with Rob Papen, it will have many of the enhancements of both MorphoX (but no morphing, because thats MorphoX) and the new CronoX 4 (to be released soon, but no Sampling as thats CronoX) and it will accurately play back Albino 3 presets. I'm not going to say what features it exactly has, though we are pretty clear about that, however, if you are used to Albino 3 you will find your way (as you would in Alpha, CronoX, MorphoX). There will be a crossgrade option, and as always we will continue support for the discontinued product for a while, at least a year. One could also say that we at LinPlug take any effort to make your investments into Albino and additional soundsets to bear fruits in years to come. As I said at first, its not our style to talk about any new products so much in advance, so please understand I wont go into more details.

Sorry guys, I have some pretty sad news. I talked with Rob and thats what we will do:

We will NOT make any successor of Albino, that is, we will NOT make any synth that loads Albino 3 presets. We will however, to support the customers as good as we can, continue support and updates for 2 more years from now on (the date of officially announcement).

And we will allow a cross-grade to any of our synth with a certain discount we not yet fixed.

Well...

That's a loss but I'll bet I get over it before Albino no longer works with my systems.

Still looking forward to the new synth. Hope it's a trim uber-Alpha style, no gimmicks or unnecessary features, and pure Linplug.

It really is a shame because Albino is still fantastic and can stand alongside some of the newer (and far more CPU hungry) synths coming out these days. One can't say the same for every synth that's now a few years old! As computers become more powerful it's great to have something that originally may have been more demanding but on a current computer is barely a blip on the cpu meter. I really like that... especially on the notebook! Personally, I don't need to run the latest and greatest especially in a live situation, and in fact I prefer not to.

This is the problem with collaborations... and the problem with investing in vst's in general. The example of Albino will make me think twice before investing a lot of money in expensive soundbanks. HOWEVER...

1) For now at least Albino works fine and sounds great.

2) As always: looking forward to seeing what Linplug (and RP for that matter) come up with next!!!
