Control external hardware via Tracktion

Hi everyone!

I've got a bit of a problem with MIDI here. I've got my Tracktion 3 connected to an old(ish) Electribe M, and I'm trying to make it play the MIDI-notes from one of the tracks in my edit, or at least respond to signals from my Akai MPK mini. It does neither. Basically, I want to use my PC to send MIDI notes to the Electribe, instead of a MIDI-keyboard.

To clarify things a bit:
The start/stop signal and synchronization works just fine.
If I connect things the other way round (eg, send MIDI from the Electribe to Tracktion), it works just fine.
The MIDI channels match.

The thing that bothers me the most is that if I assign the MPK Mini to a track and try to play it without using a virtual instrument on the same track, I get a warning saying that there is no device connected: does this mean the MIDI signal isn't actually sent to the Electribe? Then again, even with a vsti assigned to the same track, I get zip from the Korg.

Any ideas?

PS: The Electribe manual says nothing about this at all, it only covers start/stop signals and synch. But I've used it before slaved to other hardware and it worked just fine, so it seems perfectly capable of receiving MIDI notes as well.

I do that with my keyboard, but it has an USB connection with my PC that appears in tracktion settings as an output device. Via a MIDI connector, I don't know.

I suspect that you don't have any midi outputs enabled.

To check: Click on the "settings" tab and then go to "midi".
Are there any midi outputs listed there?
If not, look down below and untick the box that says "only show enabled devices".
This should show any midi devices Tracktion can see.
Enable the proper midi output device, and then click to make it "default".

Now when you go back to your edit, select the midi track (not the clip) you want to output, and go to the bottom where it says "destination output for this track"
Select "default midi output", or the name of the output you want to use.

Aside from that, you need to make sure there aren't any audio plugins inserted on that track, or they won't allow the midi to flow through them to the midi output.
