Wow, Rack Extensions are expensive

I mean, the individual extensions aren't that expensive.. But they're also quite simple and limited for the price. If you buy several, it quickly adds up to a lot of money.
E.g. there's an extremely limited (judging by the GUI) "analog bass synth" for €50. Not a lot of money, but you can buy the U-He Ace or any number of other, far more flexible synths for €70 - €100. Even some of the more expensive (€200 - €300 range) "monster-synths" give you a lot of value for your money since they're so flexible and versatile.
Same with effects - Buffer Override is €40, a Ring Modulator is €65 etc. There are some great VST effect bundles that give you everything you need for not much more - there are even some good freeware ones.
Definitely a bit of mark-up and exploitation of brand recognition here. I hope in the future they offer bundles (based on a category of extensions or a certain developer). Otherwise I'll stick fully with VST's.

Ingredients :-
Hungry captive audience
Less straightforward development (I'm guessing here)
Complicated compliance (Educated guessing)
Smaller market overall than the VST/AU market
Result :-
Higher prices

And you have to remember that Propellerheads get 30% of the money.

price * amount of customers = income
Who's the target group? Are they many or few, wealthy or poor?
With current prices i can tell that im not a part of that group.
Maybe when/if Valhalla and SK Note releases RE plugs at their current prices (or less, please crossgrade..) And then there's the synths.. err.. where are they?
I guess it will take a month before there will be any purchases as you get a 30 day demo. Then we will see how their equation will go. Looking forward to it
Let me boost MaschineR again. If you have maschine, give it a go! Incredible well done!

If its ABL you mean, the VST one costs a lot more than the RE one. (the VST can DO more, but in this case the comparative pricing seems okay.)JimmiG wrote: E.g. there's an extremely limited (judging by the GUI) "analog bass synth" for €50. You could argue ABL costs too much compared to other 'more versatile' synths but its a 303, and what it does it does VERY well.

I really hate a new standard:
prices higher than normal and smaller markets
no reselling allowed
I hope that they will require a dongle so the fail will be complete.

Ouch. They were my fav devs during Rebirth times.
It looks to me that they are copying Apple's app-store business model.

The current (quite basic) line up of Rack Extensions when combined cost more than the NI Konplete Ultimate, and don't include any physical product, can't be resold, can only be installed directly from the props website, need a dongle...

People have been crying out for Propellerheads to include VST support for years, and they finally throw them some breadcrumbs and completely limit the functionality of it, and charge the earth.
Pretty much sums them up imo.

Im selling my reason 3 to reason 6.5 upgrade because of this, having to connect to internet just to download, and the latency problems sort of did it. Im a bit stuck on what to sell for, any ideas on the going rates these days??
