workstation vstis

Ultimately isn't a DAW really the equivalent of a 'workstation.'? So I would say workstations are Studio One, Cubase, Logic, etc. even Garageband. Sampletank etc. are samplers, ROMplers, synths etc but not workstations in my mind.

Hypersonic 2 is the gold standard.
Don't bother looking. You won't find one.
No one is selling.
Some say Halion Sonic is as good. I don't know.
Next to that, Wusikstation. 16 part multi-timbral, massive sound library, albeit not as efficiently programmed as by the wizoo boys. But still lots of nice drums, pads, etc..
But yeah also Korg M1 - 8 part multi-timbral. Massive sound library including all the best Akai drum sounds you could wish for. Includes the sound cards for the T1 too.
http://www.sonicstate.com/synth/korg_t1/
Not too difficult to program when you get your head around it.
In fact, buy the Wavestation and the MS20 and the PolySix and the MonoPoly too.
Not much you couldn't do with that.
Should only cost you $99. If you buy a nanokey etc...
Only the M1 is 8-part multi-timbral though.
And the Legacy Cell only caters for the MS-20 and PolySix. It doesn't let the MonoPoly or the Wavestation play. Shame.

Maybe I got something wrong, please let me know.
Still, you don't get a 16Gb sound library with it:
http://www.wusik.com/ww/
The best sounds by the best sound designers in the business. Loads of drums.
Pads. Keyboards. Loops. You get EVE too which is a real workhorse of Organs, Pianos, Strings etc...
For what? £50 or $80.
the M1:
http://www.korg.co.uk/products/software ... acy_m1.php
I can't find a price for it. I searched for about half an hour and it just doesn't give one.
All I know is I paid more for the M1 and the Wavestation and the MS20 and the PolySix and the MonoPoly, than you would for the whole Wusikstation.
It costs a lot to buy the Korg synths by themselves, but they are a bargain when you buy them in a bundle.
My choice: Buy them both. You won't ever need to buy another synth or sample library ever again. Did that help?

Sorry, I got carried away with my prejudices.AstralExistence wrote:what kind of workstation vstis are out there? any price/free. synth/sample based.
Best Free Workstations.
No.1/ UVI Workstation
No.2/ Independence Free http://www.kvraudio.com/product/indepen ... llow_tools
No.3/ Emu Proteus VX http://www.creative.com/emu/proteusvx/
Lots of gigabytes of top quality sounds, very manipulatable, very free.
There are others that you need to just pay a couple of quid for, but I will let others suggest them from their experience.

Thanks. That is why I bought the whole lot for $99. MS-20, PolySix, MonoPoly, M1 and Wavestation. With resonance filter. Mmmm..Vertti wrote:The Korg M1 Legacy costs $49. I love how 80s/early 90s it sounds.
And my Korg Nanokey is still going strong, even though I do spank it a bit hard now and again. I just can't help myself.
Seriously, I don't think people realise you are getting the full AKAI drum library with the M1 - thousands of Akai sounds. Through 8 channels with individual effects plus two bus effects on top. And they sound mint coming through that bus. It's a steal.. We are robbing them blind really.
ALL THE AKAI DRUM SOUNDS! MPC-20 ETC...
Maybe I got it wrong again. Please correct me. I love to be corrected

I will tell you exactly where they are in a minute when I fire up the computer I have in the next room because, Korg, silly little boys they are, have hardwired their copy protection to the ethernet and wireless connections.AstralExistence wrote:where are the akai drum sounds?

ok, but dude, tell me you dont use the crappy effects that are attached to every preset its a little stupid at times i mean even the bass patches are drenched in reverb. if you go to global, you can turn off all the effects both on insert and master. of course if you do, that cool but me, i turn off all the effects on insert/master and use plugins.

If it helps, I upgraded my Halion 3 to Halion 4(Contains all Halion Sonic) and I'm very happy with it...some of the analogue synth patches are superb...AstralExistence wrote:already own m1. was just curious what could even better.

Eh dude, I don't know if you are talking to me, but if you are. I like the way you work it. Of course I would never work it that way. Your way is best. But sometimes, as a master yourself, I am sure you will appreciate, you need to know the rules, to break the rules.AstralExistence wrote:ok, but dude, tell me you dont use the crappy effects that are attached to every preset its a little stupid at times i mean even the bass patches are drenched in reverb. if you go to global, you can turn off all the effects both on insert and master. of course if you do, that cool but me, i turn off all the effects on insert/master and use plugins.
I am glad I walk amongst my peers here. Humbled, my head down. Ready to get chopped off any moment. But no, you are right they are bloody awful fx. Especially when they put them on the bass patches

I'd really love to try halionsonic but can't afford it. I'm sure if it is based on the same tech then you can't go wrong. Hypersonic holds a kind of mythical status amongst those that have tried it. I would pay a thousand pounds for it btw if anyone wants to sell.breakmixer wrote:If it helps, I upgraded my Halion 3 to Halion 4(Contains all Halion Sonic) and I'm very happy with it...some of the analogue synth patches are superb...AstralExistence wrote:already own m1. was just curious what could even better.
Paul did the MDA did the wizoo did the digidesign. Did i get that wrong? who cares.
Best damn plugins ever coded. Bar none. Good luck to the chaps.
One day, when I can afford it, I shall put my bitterness behind me and try it out.
Glad it's working for you. Heard lots of good reports so I guess you are not wrong.

Damn fine question.AstralExistence wrote:where are the akai drum sounds?
I am really glad you asked.
<grits teeth>
Er...
Start here:
Browser T1 CARD > CARD 3 TSD-02 DRUMS
Or
Multi T1 CARD > Card 3
WHERE YOU SEE DRUM KIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BROWSER - YOU CLICK ON 'BROWSER' IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER = THIS WILL BRING UP A DRUM KIT BROWSER ON THE FAR RIGHT OF THE M1 WHERE YOU CHOOSE:
MPC-01-KIT1
MPC-01-KIT2
MPC-01-KIT3
MPC-02-KIT1
MPC-02-KIT2
MPC-02-KIT3
Up to kit 16!
THIS IS WHERE ALL THE AKAI KITS ARE STORED. MPC PLUS TSD KITS TOO
THOUSANDS OF DRUM SOUNDS. Akai, Korg.
It is very difficult to explain. I suppose I should do a little video demo of how to get there - it is very easy to see, but almost impossible to explain.
Anyway. The Korg M1 is probably the most powerful and versatile drum expander in the vst universe.
come on fellas, I can't be the only bod that knows how to operate this thing.

This has all the Akai and Korg kits - thousands of samples...
They have given the game away and you just don't see it do you?
Get to work!
