Oh wow so it was. I thought all COFX stuff was Win only. I own the Win version, how do I get the Mac version then?

actually I'm not quite sure - if in doubt, simply contact Jon, I'd say...

Kubik 2.5 is the only COFX plugin which:

- has been coded in C++ instead of Delphi

- was developed and released after RPCX was founded

- is avaliable for OSX

I was disappointed with the sound, it has the potential to be a fantastic synth but sounds very digital and metallic. I had problems with the gui becoming unresponsive too. It is a shame Jon didn't develop it further and improve it.

Personally I think it can sound like almost anything. Hence I would not describe it as 'digital and metallic' at all - it can do that too, but it can also sound very organic, breathy, analog-like, warm, beautyful. It's simply put a wonderful instrument.

I simply love Kubik. You can come very close to the sound of a Microwave2 (i own two MicrowaveXTs). It only lacks some "grit" from the hardware (the Microwave cuts thru every mix), in return Kubik can sound more "hi-fi".

+ great possibilities of creating your own waves/wavetables with additive synthesis
+ creating wavetables by resynthesizing samples (works best with samples without detuning/phasing)
+ broad range of sounds possible from digital to analog-like, from clean to dirty
+ low price
o you need to get used to the signal flow and modulation matrix
- the gui is sometimes a bit sluggish (on my computer win7/64)
- it's a shame that it won't be updated any more

Kubik sounds at least twice as good when you put some Valhalla Übermod or stw ReflexPro on it.

imo it pisses all over it... Kubik is incredibly powerful - there are few synths with as many modulation possibilites - e.g. the LFOs are on a league of their own, then there are sequencers, multistage-envelopes, etc. ... the modulators themselves can also be modulated

i'm in the minority it seems as i agree with you. Just don't dig the actual sound at all. It has this weird thing to it which i can't explain but just sounds harsh

like I already mentioned, Kubik doesn't so much have a sound of its own as many other synths have . it so much depends on your wavetables and how you modulate them, how you tweak the envelopes and the LFOs, also the OSc mode, etc. - actually it's very modular - Kubik is more like a small and tidy yet very smartly equipped toolbox.

It may sound bad, broken, harsh digital and what not - but then that's you...

I LOVE the KUBIK! It's great for jamming live IMO. also as was said above it's a great little toolbox who's sound fits into most any mix.

It needs to be updated. I fear I won't be able to play it on whatever operating system is down the road and that thought makes me sad...
