There's some speculation that NI may offer some sort of upgrade for Maschine MkI owners, so I'm holding off to see: (1) if that's true, and (2) how well the v1.8 features work with my MkI hardware. I do like the idea of the color pads (for function, not so much for aesthetics), and the new screens look much better than the MkI screens. The feature I'm most excited about is the ability to control my DAWs' transport from Maschine - regardless, I'm assuming (hoping) that this v1.8 feature will work with my MkI controller. I seriously doubt NI feels the need to discount their flagship product for all existing owners. I sold mine before the market is saturated. |

Really? Man, NI is going to busy with that if so I think it will be tied to maschine owners though. It's too bizarre that they'd just give them away and allow the resale..........but I'll sell mine nice and cheap if that is the case |

I just bought the old machine Mikro for €200 brand new. I didn't think the extra €130 was worth it for the flashing lights and extra sensitivity on the pads. For that price if they throw in massive it's an absolute bargain. I'm not complaining. |

Does anyone know how machine works in Song mode? Is it like the Song mode in Fxpansion's Geist or a different style? |

pretty similar to geists scene mode.
each group (=geist engine) has several patterns. song mode is just specifying which pattern in a group is playing. im not sure if you can record a song by switching patterns on the fly like geist though, but i havent got that far. see the upper right part of the software: http://rekkerd.org/img/200906/maschine_software.png |

gamecat666 wrote: im not sure if you can record a song by switching patterns on the fly like geist though You can't. A work around would be recording the pattern changes into your DAW. Its not a show stopper though, just copy paste. If you already bought Massive seperatly and it's not tied to Komplete you could sell that version and keep the one NI gives you. You wouldn't be able to sell the freebie as it is tied to Mashine/serial. |

I was kinda hoping for a MaxiMaschine allowing even more simultaneous hands on control... not sure that this one offers much over the original hardware. The fancy lights might be helpful, but I wouldn't consider them essential... |

Looking forward to the 1.8 and 2 updates.
Wont be Craiglsting the MkI, got a QuNeo due this week/next...be interesting to see what templates people come up with to use this with Maschine. All open source so can't wait. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kmi/quneo-multi-touch-op en-source-midi-and-usb-pad-con/posts/298234?ref=email&show_t oken=230de78861ab7bb7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=mkw F7ChM3eM ---- Rintrah roars & shakes his fires in the burdend air 'Need talent & opportunity' |

There are other hardware improvements as well besides the color pads:
Quote: The hardware design has changed a bit; one notable addition is the new master push encoder with grid, and the 47 all-new click-buttons that help to speed up the workflow. The displays have been updated also; the new high contrast displays have a higher viewing angle that will help keep things visible, even with some difficult live performance placements. Quote: And with the increased sensitivity of the new pads, you also have a new level of precision at your fingertips. Quote: The Master section has been redesigned. Control volume, tempo and swing with the new multifunction master push encoder - select modes with the new toggle buttons and accurately click through values without having to look at the screen or display.
Navigating and scrubbing are much easier, and changing note pitch and detailed tweaking becomes extra-precise thanks to the encoder's superb physical response. So besides the RGB LEDs, we get new high contrast displays with better viewing angles, click buttons, even more sensitive pads and faster more accurate browsing with a chunkier knob. Plus no more accidentally tweaking swing or tempo knobs at a gig when u just wanted to fade in a beat. So for that I'm VERY happy. I also expect the new hardware to all have locking USB ports like the Mikro. |

Peter Kirn @ CDM says they're basically the same knobs and said it seemed to have a softer touch. |

Ah. Cuz those look like plastic vs the current knobs I have in front of me.
Good news then! |

Good news then! Yeah, he said they just made small changes to the geometry, on the taper on the top of the cap, and the grooves inside. They're still soft-touch knobs. |
