Any idea why this fails?

I am also having a problem. I have tried loading VSTs from various sources and I get error messages when I try to add them in the Plug in Manager.

Messages like: "plug in xxx.dll failed msw error"

I successfully loaded them into Reaper, but I like MuLab much better.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Are you running MuLab 32bit or MuLab 64bit?
Are the VSTs 32bit or 64bit?

Unlike Reaper, MuLab does not have a built-in 32/64 bridge - but you can use something like jBridge if that is the problem.

I don't know whether the ones I was trying were 32 bit but that sounds like the likely answer. I was just trying some freebies to see if I could get it working.

Seems like saying whether a plugin is 32 or 64 bit doesn't always seem like a priority to all developers, however I was able to locate some plugin from BlueCat Audio where they say they are 64 bit and lo and behold they installed very nicely.

So I reckon that's the answer and I learnt something too.

Thanks!

The weird thing in my case was that I had only one wrong VST (Charlatan) in the VST folder, still it caused problems with three other VSTs as well that seemingly did not have anything to do with it. Strange...

That's ironic because it was Charlatan I used to try it out.

Worked okay.

I currently the Charlatan and two Blue Cat effects in. All working fine.

(I should point out that is this only my fourth day back in Midi after a twenty year absence. So I'm pretty pleased with the progress !
