How to slide when overlapping note in chord?

When sliding between two chords that share none of the same notes, I understand that to get a slide, I need to extend the first chord notes to overlap the second chord notes.

However, if there are common pitches/notes between the two chords, how does one do this convincingly?

Here's the example.. note the common D note between the two chords.. I don't understand how I'd extend the first note to allow the slide to that second D. E.g. the low B slides to D, and the low D slides to F.. but how does one make that happen?

Thanks!
