How about Pipa?

I love your rare Kontact instruments guys, and I'd like to see this one. Strange thing but this chinese lute is very rare as a sampled instrument. You can find some wav samples or very low quality instruments, but that's all. It's even not included in EWQL Ra, that was very awkward to me. So I offer you to make one.

And please, give it some more advanced kontakt scripting like Scarbee basses do.

This instrument has a lot of traits and different ways of playing and making sound from it

we'll certainly look into it, thanks for the suggestion, they're always welcome!

a really good Oud would do it for me  :)

If I could make my own selfish suggestion , I'd say bring us at least one bowed instrument from the Renaissance or the early Baroque . Could be a Bass de Viol , a Viola d'Amore , a violin ... their sound is so different to that of their present counterparts . It borns naturally modulated , they don't need vibrato nor violent attacks to transmit emotion . Just the organic strings and , mainly , a lower tension in the bow's bristles are enough to produce an ever changing quality in the sound .

When you hear a single sample from a modern violin it's just a metallic squeaking that needs a lot of work to be put into music . I think people would love to play their melodies with one of those ancient instruments . They were replaced because of their lack of sonic power to "fill" the ever growing halls and Opera theaters of the XIXth century , but it poses no problem to our amplified music . They could easily cut throug a movie theatre with a tension , colour and emotion very different to what people are used to hear nowadays .

Of course , your bowed piano has a feeling that is very close to what I'm proposing ! . But I'm thinking in something that could play in 16th or even 32nd notes . That could be mega-useful .

that's a nice idea, and something that's worth looking into.i like the idea of something that sounds like a violin but inherently different.

but, on the subject of 16th or 32nd notes, Bowed Piano CAN play these, using the staccato sample set. these are hard attack, short notes. check the 'Steve reich' demo :

Yes you are right ! . I think I had Bach's partitas in mind when I was assuming "Vowed Piano" can't deal with this . I have to try it out ! .

Glad you like the idea .

Hi.
I must say I really like this bowed piano concept and I was wondering about the reich demo song. Is that a song by reich or just something you made just like something he would do??

It's an excerpt from Steve Reich's Music for Mallet Instruments, Voice and Organ.

Blackbyrd: Are you familiar with this sampled Pipa?

Yeah, that would be great!

You could sit astride the bowed/strung instrument idea, and offer a high-quality sampling of a well-built (i.e. not screechy) --the first stringed instrument to which the keyboard principle was applied! You could even do variations on the theme by sampling an , a (or symphonia), and perhaps a , too. There's a variety of builders with different styles and models around, offering different sounds.

I've hankered after one for years, but they're too rare and prohibitively expensive.

Just a suggestion. :)

An oud would be great, too!

...and I've always wanted a really good sampling of hand bells.

Sorry if I diverted the thread. A pipa would be terrific, too! 8)

I totally agree with Blackbyrd's proposal. The pipa is a wonderful, expressive instrument and would lend itself well to clever Kontakt scripting.

There is, in fact, a quite nice Pipa by Chinee Kong but it's strictly PC only. A cross platform Kontakt instrument would be very welcome indeed!

Best,

Joachim
If it were easy, anybody could do it!
