Error reading file

Hi all, I'm hoping I can get some help because Mackie has been unresponsive to me.

I just loaded Tracktion 3 on a Windows 7 PC with an Intel i7 processor. I recorded several tracks in a new edit and everything was working great -- really happy with the ease of use compared with Sonar 6 Home Studio.

I exported to an MP3 and it sounded great!

Last night, I deleted part of a track and copied in an AIF drum loop that came with the application. It was only two measures, a drum fill.

Suddenly, most of my tracks (not all, 2 are intact) now have no audio in them and read "Error reading file". I closed Tracktion and rebooted; now when I open Tracktion, I cannot even open that edit. It crashes Tracktion.

If I browse to the WAV files of the tracks, either in Windows explorer or within Tracktion (without opening the edit), they play just fine.

Help? I put hours and hours into this. I really hate to lose all my work.

Sounds like the edit file is corrupt, but the .wav data is all still available. You might try.

Create a new edit.
Import all the .wav files.

If that is an issue. You might try.

Create a new project.
Import all the .wav files.

The second suggestion worked. I tried creating a new edit but the tracks were still messed up. They played, but they had the wrong instruments!? For example, I imported the Bass Guitar track that sounded fine through Windows Media Player, but in Tracktion it was a drum kit. Bizarre.

I created a whole new project and started importing, and everything is fine. For some reason, though, all my cuts are missing. The tracks all have blank space before and after them.

Anyway, thanks! I might move to another app because I can't deal with this happening again, or at least wait until Tracktion has a full Windows 7 compatibility update.

PS: I am on 3.0.0.18 because I can't find a patch download anywhere. It is not available in my.mackie.com.

It'll cost ya $60 (http://www.reaper.fm/) to find out if something else might suit your fancy.

T3 does most everything I need, but I'm learning to like Reaper.

Sorry, but there's not gonna be any compatibilty update. Tracktion is orphaned, end of story. My advice would be to change horses at the earliest possible moment and write Tracktion 3 off as a learning experience.

There is an update to 3.0.4.8 which fixed a lot of bugs from the earlier versions. It still shows up in my account.

I'd try again to find it. It's well worth it.
But failing that, don't hold your breath for anymore bug fixes from Mackie. Your best shot at support is right here in this forum (which didn't even have Mackie's name on it until recently). Guys here have come up with a surprising number of tweaks and work-arounds for T3.

I will try to search for the update again. I really appreciate the pointers--I don't like switching apps at the drop of a hat, I and prefer to at least try to work with something that I like overall. Tracktion has been much more usable to me than something more complex when all I'm really doing is recording, looping, and mixing analog tracks.

I went back and tried reproducing my issue so I don't do it again. I think the straw that broke the Tracktion's back was when I moved tracks up and down. At some point I moved Track 7 so it was between 3 and 4, and that's really when it stopped reading the files correctly.

There is no "patch" download for 3.0.4.8, or any other version. You simply install the latest demo of Tracktion onto your system then unlock it in the standard way.
